9pm in Athens on Tuesday, falling to a raucous UGA crowd with tom crean making a fool of himself, without Hagans. Should be fun.

Nothing worse then when a UK player makes a leap on an otherwise disappointing team. Hopefully this team figures stuff out so Richards improvement and game won't be in vain.

As frustrating as Nick has been in the past his development is a positive in changing the narrative around UK basketball that if you aren’t a OAD or at least out by year two you’re a failure or Cal will run you off. NR is clearly a fan favorite and has developed to the point that...he probably won’t play in the league, but there is a chance.

Speaking of slow development, EJ. Shew wee. That dude is damn near unplayable. And he doesn’t have the excuse Nick had of starting basketball at like 12 years old.

We had 3 guys in our rotation who were literally unplayable in a long while?

Keion Brooks, btw, would be getting a lot of **** if he wasn't being compared to Whitney and Montgomery. So it is dangerously close to 4 guys out of our top 9 being unplayable.

Cal said EJ needs to play like Davis. [laughing]

I'd be happy with play like Skal at this point.

If Hagans isn't spoon feeding him a layup he has nothing.

I would have really liked for Cal to let Brooks play through some mistakes early in the season because I think that dude could be a contributor, time will tell I guess.

I think Brooks, while he needs to get stronger, could be pretty good at the 4. At the 3, he just doesn’t handle the ball or shoot well enough to provide much on offense. Whitney is the same story except worse because he plays with less energy.

Same with EJ as the 4/5. He would be better off at center but Richards is better...who would have thought that a year ago?

Should we expand Richards role offensively?

I was thinking Richards would be a Jorts type player when maximizing his ability on this team, but my oh my, he looked like he could be KAT for this team. He drove to the rim, hit some jumpers, made some post shots, hit free throws, and rebounded at a high level. It's one game, but observing the manifestation of a multifaceted skill set has me quite optimistic in the evolution of the team.

EJ just needs to get it through his head that he is a cog on offense. He is not out there to get his. The team doesn't want him taking midrange jumpers off the bounce in transition. A solid game for him ought to be a modest total of points on a few shots while being a beast around the rim. At the current pace, he's going to end up just being a backup at the 5 for Nick. Nick has embraced the 5 despite having far greater shooting ability and is excelling. Backing up the 5 is still an important role given Richards penchant for fouling.

What Cal said about EJ in regards to Anthony Davis was hilarious for several reasons. First, obviously EJ isn’t in AD’s class in any basketball related activity. But second, it implied that Cal didn’t need (or even want) AD to be an offensive force for us.

Pump the brakes

KAT is a generational offensive big man talent.

Proud of Nick, but if he just finishes plays others make for him either on the dive, pop or lob...that’s the ceiling. Exactly what he did today.

Big Blue enthusiasm and alcohol can cause hallucinations and delusions of grandeur.

But of course, KAT comparisons from one game is foolhardy, but a boy can dream

If a UK loss ever gets you down, just go visit the IU board. Depressing place- like Groundhogs Day set in purgatory. Just think- 25 years ago we were tied with titles and considered peers atop the college basketball universe. Since then, they’ve gotten past the Sweet 16 once and their greatest highlight was a December upset.

Yesterday someone mentioned when Hagans is off he is really off.

Meanwhile his stat line was 7pts 7a 5r 1stl which against UL it was 8/8/5/2 and we controlled both games.

If Maxey and Quickley are hitting shots, and Nick is doing well in the post like we saw yesterday, and/or Sestina has a few pick and pops then Hagans main role is to keep us organized.

Now if one of those things is off sure Hagans can be more aggressive trying to score, but we seem to be much better when he is getting us set, distributing and playing ballhawk on defense.

I think Brooks has potential. He should get every single one of Whitney's minutes. The problem is that we only have 3 guards and we have to go 3 guard as much as possible so Brooks has to play some small forward by default.

Brooks is a four but Cal wants to bring Quickly off bench and keep EJ head in game by starting him
Best lineup is Richards Sestina Quickly Maxey Hagans
Play through Sestina some in the post when we go that route
Best skip passer from post decent jump hook
Brooks can’t play 3 - either can Whitney
Juzang May rebound better than both but like Maxey rushes his jumper like the Ball is a hot potato

Pretty much. Would like to see some analytics on Montgomery’s best lineup. I’m sure his stats would still be meager but still.

Montgomery pisses me off most because he hasn’t improved a single bit from last year. He’s actually gotten worse, which is just inexcusable given what he has access to and what he could achieve with effort.

I could excuse his play if he was giving great effort, wasn’t a complete *****, and took the shots he should be taking. Instead, he’s lazy, out of position, and takes terrible shots he has no business taking. That’s a perfect recipe to draw the wrath of BJW.
