Loved the win. I appreciate the effort we got from our limited front court, Rupp was great and Maxey was once again “like that”.

BUT, this team is objectively mediocre by Cal’s standards with maybe the lowest floor of any non-13’ team. Is what it is. That’s why it’s almost funnier that we beat a top 5 UL squad.

Does that mean we can’t make a run? No, college basketball is in a down year and we’ve seen pretty bad UConn teams go all the way on the shoulders of a really good point guard and average supporting cast. Maybe Maxey has that in him.

...but we also could be set up for a first weekend exit if he doesn’t. And that’s what this team is. Grab a coke and chill I guess?

With all due respect, please allow me to restate my point: this team has the ability to beat any team in the nation (I wasn’t sure about that based on the previous few games). However, we cannot overcome an off night shooting like many of our previous teams could. Moreover, this team seems to be prone to off nights more than others we have had in the past. So in conclusion, kiss my ***.

I feel like the team that can put together the biggest combination of field goals, 3 pointers, and free throws will probably win the game.

So what you guys are trying to say is that college basketball could be described as a make-or-miss league.

That has a nice ring to it. Maybe it will catch on.

SGA following the Oladipo route will probably work out better in the long run (money wise) than being on a championship team, anyway.

So if UK hits over 45% from 3 and 85% from the free throw line while the other teams shoots less than 25% and less than 50% from the free throw line, we can bat them ? Damn. Wonder what would happen if teams like Evansville and Utah had that type of luck, could they beat top teams ? Earth shattering **** there, but I think it all comes down to effort and focus. Seems to me that if the effort and focus is there, we can beat anyone. Maybe.

Los Angeles Clippers: "we really want Paul George."

OKC Thunder be like: "okay, let's start by you giving us a guy 7 years younger who's almost as good......but also another really good player, plus like 4 first rounders."

Los Angeles Clippers: "yes!"

Where do I apply to be an NBA GM?

Paul George was 3rd in MVP voting last year, 1st Team ALL NBA, and is one of the Top 5 two-way players in the league - so, not quite on the 'almost as good'. If you're the Clippers, and you have Kawhi on board, you pretty much have to make that trade, especially with all the other parts they have. Best roster that team has had, or will ever have.

I thought it was a great trade for both teams w/ OKC looking for a complete reboot and the Clips going for a title. OKC got some extry for sure, but that's usually what it takes for a player of PG caliber.

And yes, SGA is a star. Worship

What makes their GM stand out is that in this “reboot” year those dudes compete like they don’t know they aren’t the Lakers........and then there is the Knicks working on a 20 year reboot.

Lampoon it all you want, but making shots is what will make or break this team. This bunch isn’t built to rebound on the offensive glass like past Calipari teams have been. Therefore, you had better make the most of each possession. Get the right guys taking shots they’re comfortable with. Simple as that.

That’s why IQ is so important to this team. I think he is the best 3 point shooter on the roster (in-game shooter against good D) and if he PROGRESSES to the mean, this team goes up a level.

Richards and Sestina’s role definition will also be crucial. Richards pretty much knows what he needs to do and we saw it Saturday. So happy for that kid. Sestina will have it figured out as well. Be tough on D, help out on the glass, and stretch the floor.

Hagans and Maxey will be the “superstars” but I don’t expect it consistently from them . . . yet.

Anyone else that develops is just extra. I think this team can be ok as they continue to get comfortable in their roles and not try to do too much. I’m actually looking forward to conference play. I think they move forward in a big way.

In some ways, I see a SGA type progression for Maxey in SEC play. Kid can score in so many different ways, but needs the keys to do so. Would love to see Cal install a 2-man set with him and Sestina, similar to Brandon Knight and Jorts.

PROGRESSES to the mean,
It's always called "regression" to the mean even when it's a positive development because the regression refers to the statistic moving backwards to where it should be from where it's deviated to, regardless of whether that's a positive or negative movement.*

* This is not intended to be dickish, I just think it's kind of a fun fact that will make you sound smarter at parties.

I have more faith in Hagans leading us on a run than I do Maxey. Maxey is a reclassified freshman who should be in high school right now. Those guys tend to fade more down the stretch from the grind than normal freshman do. But hopefully I am wrong.

This team is just flawed in ways that you would not have expected coming into the season. It is what it is. No reason to harp on it, just kind of remarkable that we are almost halfway through the season and this team has such glaring weaknesses that don't look fixable by anything other than praying for us to hit shots from outside.

Still awesome to see them nut up and out-hustle the Dirty Birds. And if that is the third best team in America, maybe Kentucky is good by comparison to the competition.

I thought it “progresses to the mean” became part of GYERO nomenclature thanks to Bob a few months back?
