The lesson of these threads? Don’t be an extreme blue tint glasses guy and don’t be the e extreme fire Cal Guy

He’s done about 80% things here that are extremely awesome, but no one is without faults. These two goof *** groups need to step back and learn to have rational takes.

No coach is immune from criticism and there’s no reason for a coach to be fired after a loss.

Cal does need to work on some stuff, but don’t we all?

But Cal is a perfect fit for UK.

If you have someone better in mind, speak up and let us know who it is. Be realistic, though.

I’ll stick with Cal and take the bad with the good.

This yes/no voting is a little inaccurate based on these commentaries:

"I just wish he would tweak 1-2 things" is a fan who understands that we're in fortunate spot historically and wants him to stay.

"He should stay, but he should (describes successful coach from the 80s)" is a fan who wants him to go.

"I don't have a strong preference either way, we will be just as strong without him" is just as stupid as "I want him gone".

To this last point: We'll get another coach who is this successful, but it might be 4 coaches from now.

If UK was really immortal by itself, then Joe B wouldn't have happened, nor Sutton (even without the scandal he was way below Cal/Rick standard of success), nor Tubby, nor BCG.

I mean, the last 20 years of Rupp's career are slightly worse than a worst-case projection that the CLOD has for Cal after 20 years.

Some of you are just miscalibrated by Cal and Rick to expect things that no program can actually expect year in and year out (unless you combine this level of recruiting with football culture of staying 3+ years, as with Bama football or UConn Women's basketball).

How should I say this...I don't want him gone but if he left I wouldn't be as upset or panicked as I would have been 5 years ago.

I want him to stay, but start actually coaching. Do ALL of the things coaches do: prepare for opponents, make adjustments, have a structured offense, play the best players for the situation, strategically build a team designed to win basketball games. I want him to show he cares about UK basketball more than individual players.

Nope, just want to see some tweaks that the normal average fan can relate to. Adjustments. A few more set offenses rather than asking freshmen to "create" their own. Less AAU and more Division I college basketball. Less NBA draft talk (I'm fine if we have kids leave that should leave, but let it happen in the background and be humble about it).
Yep and yes sir. These kids want the NBA but he can't coach them like they are in the NBA.
Run plays for the best players in the best scenario for them. Stop playing Nick and EJ together and cut back their minutes. Run set plays for Sestina on the perimeter.

Bashing the coach is what fans do. I remember UNCheat fans between the illegitimate 2009 title and the the 2017 title wanting Williams gone because of his refusal to call timeouts during runs by the other team. We fans have all the answers. It's a mystery why the schools don't pay us millions for our advice.

People can ***** about the coach without wanting him to leave. Just change some **** that hasn’t been working. That’s all people want.

What’s not working is all the crying and moaning day in day out as he’s not gonna change things up for a small number of idiots on a free message board. If they charged a measly 2 bucks a month for this site, the Cal bashing would practically cease as the cockroaches would scatter.

We don’t want Cal to get fired but we do want him to do A through z things differently.

well yeah u kinda do want Cal gone lol

it’s ok to be critical of any coach. Everyone has thoughts and ideas on how things could be better. That’s one thing.

but if u find yourself questioning things and being critical all the time then yes u prob want another coach.

If being critical of a coaches flaws means you want a new coach then Duke fans want K replaced... UNC wants Roy replaced.

Welcome to sports where coaches and players are criticized constantly .... because people dont like losing.

If you want him to tweak the offense that’s one thing.

if you want him to start recruiting 3/4 year guys that aren’t as highly rated as our guys, you prob want a new coach

he's gonna have to start doing more of that after next year... I highly doubt cal can out recruit the NBA draft.

So here is the poll...
Before the season I posted something like this (not a poll, just a general question). not one poster said they wanted him gone.
Everyone that posted in response said that nobody wants him gone, it’s just criticism.
11 games into season a thread is started saying he should move on and that post has about 30 likes.
So, what gives?
Finally a poster has the balls to say it, and suddenly there are many who want him gone.

I want some!!! That was the question right?

Odd dynamic where a Ky fan wants a small amount of change to seemingly make the team better ( 90% or above agree we need some type of offensive adjustment) but other Ky fans say those fans secretly want the coach fired . Even when you say " I dont want the coach fired " you get accused of wanting the coach fired . No one gets to decide where I stand but me , these crazy suggestions that if you do this you really mean that are absurd .

Just because you see his flaws doesn’t mean you want him gone.

My wife is not perfect, she has flaws that I would love for her to work on, but I don’t want to be married to anyone else.

My son is great, but he does some things that frustrate me from time to time. I really wish he would pick up after himself more and clean his room, but I would not trade him for anything, of course.

I have a good boss, but he makes mistakes from time to time. I wish he would give me more pats on the back. Doesn’t mean I want a new boss.

I am not the perfect husband, father, or employee, but hopefully I am good enough that they want to keep me around. I know I need to work on some things to be better.

Same for Cal. I don’t want him gone, but I would love to see him improve in some areas.

I am sure other fan bases feel the same way about their coaches.

Exactly . Spot on accurate. I'm tired of the " you want Cal fired" because you point out obvious shortcomings .

Calipari doinked 12 people’s old ladies in this thread. That’s why we got 12 yes selections.

we don’t know what the rule is going to be. So if players decide on college they have to stay a set number of years?

he won’t out recruit the NBA obviously but in a system where say the best 5-10 players enter the draft, Cal is still going after the best of whatever is left over. Like he said, we are still going to eat first. And once he gets those guys, he’s still going to do everything in his power to get them to the league ASAP.

so my main point is if a fan is unhappy with this (and we have a small subset that are) then he’s not changing and those fans prob do want to see him fired. It’s prob the 11 that voted yes on this poll.

I wished he put the priority on winning Titles instead of draft positions. I believe he thought, by recruiting NBA talent, winning the titles would come along with it. I thought that too after winning it in 2012. That clearly isn't working out and he seems unlikely to change his method.

If he doesn't change the way he's doing it within a couple years, I will be ready for him to move on.

I'm sick of hearing about how many he's put in the league and how much money they are earning.

Players first should be things like staying in the Wildcat Lodge, having access to the best trainers and training equipment, their own Chef etc and not sacrificing Titles to see them get drafted even though the majority of them aren't ready.

Doing it the way he does wins a lot of games but not the titles we had hoped for. I was fine with trying it for several years but it just doesn't work.

People say the times have changed and you have to adapt to it. Well I'm old school and I liked the old UK teams much better than what we're getting these days. We always had guys that could just play basketball and shoot. It didn't matter what star ranking they had by their name.

These high flying athletes that can't shoot and have no BB IQ but can run and jump 4ft high, staying 1 year, just isn't fun to watch.

What I won't be ok with is winning 25-30 games a season, no titles and 5 draft picks. Who cares about draft picks other than Cal!

well.

*whispers in your ear*

they charge $10 a month on HOB and there’s a lot of bitching there too. It ain’t gonna stop til something changes or the team starts winning. That’s the nature of sports. It has nothing to to do with this being a free board and everything to do with the product sucking.
