It is this simple... Auburn is successful at basketball and Alabama is not. The powers that be at Alabama will not stand for that. They'll do everything they can to show up Auburn. Johnson wasn't getting them to that level.

They've had talent at 'Bama over the years but it all comes down to coaching. They've had great players in the past like Leon Douglas, Reggie King, Latrell Sprewell, Bobby Joe Hurt, etc. Just can't put it all together.

Alabama basketball reminds me of the University of Texas basketball program. No matter how well they do, no one really cares. I watched UT play the other night at the Erwin Center and there could not have been more than 1500 people there even though attendance was announced at something around 5000.

Actually, the Alabama fanbase does care about basketball as soon as football is over (around the second or third week in Jan). They actually have very good attendance and regularly sell out a fairly large arena starting in January if they have a good team. They also have a good history and they have unlimited resources, so it seems like they are underachieving.

I agree with the OP. Kind of like Georgia replacing Fox with Crean. Both situations that seem like lateral moves at best and potentially slight downgrades IMO.

Be honest, what serious coach wants to lead Georgia basketball?

Not impressed with Oats and Crean has the top player he's ever landed and barely beat Chaminade.

Liked what they did with Coleman, never been for a game but stopped by there to peek inside on our way back home from Texas.

Best coach I've ever seen Georgia have in basketball was Hugh Durham. Harrick did a pretty good job but Durham completely changed the culture. Unfortunately for Georgia, they weren't able to sustain any of the success. They were never great in basketball but showed a lot of improvement while Durham was there. Can't really see Crean getting them to anymore than a NIT on a consistent basis.

I didnt like watching UK play Bama with Avery, just seemed like he cried about every call like Ollie does. He may be a hell of a nice guy and no judgement I just didnt care to seem him every year.

We have a 50 post thread about Alabama basketball. I’m guessing they don’t have 50 posts on their own board about the basketball team.

When Joe B. was at UK, some of the teams great games was against Wimp at Bama. I’m sure all you old timers remember Leon Douglas.
