Diallo does absolutely nothing for me. He is not a star and is not even as good as Aberdeen was. He's a fine 4th or 5th option.

Aberdeen: ORtg = 121.3, DRtg = 114.4 (+6.9 points per 100 possessions), OWS = 2.6, DWS = 0.9
Diallo: ORtg = 114.7, DRtg = 112.5 (+2.2 points), OWS = 2.3, DWS =
Ok? If we was more than certain denzel could get another year, im sure pope would love for him to stay..the pg positon we dont have time to waste. This is also possibly about trying to pair up stokes and diallo together.

It’s a start, I’ll try to hold my judgement until we officially miss on all the stars. Stokes will be the big decider for me outside of a surprise commitment. I don’t see us being better than last year without him.

I’m happy to have him! We needed good news and I don’t care what anybody says I’m glad we picked him up.
I agree and he has 2 years left and doesn't miss games . His size will be beneficial in conference play. I know he's not Wright but he's a solid player. I remember when we signed Butler there was a lot of negativity and he has his best offensive season with us. Good pickup imo.

He’s a terrible fit for Pope’s system. Unless he has some seriously skilled guys waiting to sign, next year’s team won’t look much different than this year, IMO. Diallo isn’t a bad player. But, he’s the antithesis of what a PG should be in Pope’s offense. I can’t even pretend to be happy about this. He’s a really nice piece in the right system, surrounded by the right players. But, he’s just gonna be a liability here. If our 2,3 & 4 aren’t knockdown shooters next year is gonna be ugly af.
This man knows ball.

I feel the exact same. This is the same as Diaboute last year. He’s a good player but he has to be surrounded by shooting. Mo wasn’t and I’m not seeing anything to think Zoom will be either. This is just last portal season all over again striking out on plan A and B and then having to (id bet money) overpay on plan C.
And, ppl here coped last year by saying Mo shot 40% from 3 at Alabama. Yeah, on .5 attempts/game. Lmao. Anybody could take one look at Mo’s mechanics & see that he’s no shooter. I think most ppl just look at stats & assume that translates to winning basketball.

Like I said, Diallo is a good player. Don’t mean to imply otherwise. But, he just doesn’t fit what Pope supposedly wants to do. I, admittedly, overvalue shooting. But, it’s imperative to have lots of good shooters if you’re gonna run an offense like this. It’s like having Tim Couch running the option.

I’m glad we got him as opposed to the alternative of striking out and having to scour the portal for plan C at point guard. How much he actually moves the needle remains to be seen. If we can get a couple more players like Stokes and Freeman who can be our go to scoring options that he just needs to distribute the ball to, I think he can succeed in that role. If we miss on them and end up needing Zoom to do more of the heavy lifting, I’m considerably less optimistic.
Stokes is not coming here

He was the original top target, him and Dedan. We have literally only missed on Wright and everyone ran with it. Let’s get Rancik, Freeman and Cox and get this portal going. First domino finally done.
You can’t even keep your stories straight. You said our original top target was him and Dedan. Then you said we only missed on Wright. Dedan was a miss too unless Pope is storing him away somewhere.

Something is better than nothing. At least this guy has performed against other P4 players. Hopefully he is better than I expect him to be. Still, how can you not selll Wright on playing with a player who could have been yin to his yang. What a missed opportunity.

Is he the original top target because of pick-and-roll, being big/strong compared the last 2 years of point guards, or simply the small connection to Stokes?

Also this is some interesting stats from last year....how did he not block one shot?
Hopefully it's just a strategy. As a defender you can defend a shot by trying to block it or by blocking the shooter's vision. I say hopefully because if he's not obstructing the shooter's vision then he's just not defending shots(if that stat is not a typo).

his coaching wasn't the problem first year. last year it was substitution patterns. I think that was due to being too nice and playing players who needed to be on the bench Johnson, Garrison mainly.

I agree that he is not a better player than Aberdeen but I think he's a little better point guard than Aberdeen, who is better as a 2 guard. When you consider that Kentucky is almost certain to have much better backup point play from L. Williams and whoever else we get than we got out of JJ, then the point guard position is looking quite a bit better than it was last year. It's something...

Denzel is 22 YO in his 4th of college, Zoom was 20 in his second year. I would expect Zoom to improve next year.

I wanted this kid if we don’t get Wright for our PG spot. Welcome, Zoom!

Not gonna get too excited, though. We need a lot more if Pope wants a shot at saving his job next year.

So is he a big 6' 4" or is he 6'5"?

I'm getting two different numbers on this guy. Is he a big pg? 6'5" is the perfect size for point guard in my opinion.

His size is the best thing imo.
