Some fans are just miserable people and cant help themselves. I recommend touching more grass and dragging less knuckles on said grass. Our fans SHOULD be the best, but often they are just the opposite. It's a shame.
I’d bet some of those contacting or bashing the players are our “favorite” Rafters posters. They are dedicated fans.

How little self esteem and life do you have to have to belittle ball players.

I wouldn’t have social media if I was in the public eye personally but where we at on this one Rafters? He has been sucking for sure but I personally don’t think going on people’s social channels and trolling or threatening them is acceptable but I know there will be other takes. Let er rip.

It takes a real P——y to go on a college kid’s instagram and talk shiiiit. They’re the absolute worst part of our fanbase and I guarantee a few of them post here under different ANON accounts everyday. Needs a good Asss Whopping but you’ll never find them out of their parents basement.

Is it true that the rupp crowd bood zoom when he had the ball? I swear to everything holy that I hate a very large portion of our fans and especially our basketball fans. A lot of what other fanbases say about us is correct. We are crazy and it’s not always in a cool way like Cal used to say.
You just making up some stuff so you can talk **** and act high and mighty here? Sure looks like it. Very noble.

Something tells me if someone is doing that then its not a UK fan. Sounds like a rival fan in disguise. Cant see even the biggest hardcore ignorant fan messaging a player and talking bad before the season even starts.

If so what a loser pos

I want to see actual evidence he was threatened first. It’s stupid to go yell at him on social media at all but I hate the narrative that he was threatened over an exhibition game without proof. Just because he deleted it doesn’t mean he was threatened.

It's gotta be a huge jump going from Washington to a program that has expectations and pressure to perform. I think he'll rise to the challenge. He's a baller.
Agree. He’ll work hard and figure it out. I’m sure he doesn’t need those weak boys sending him we love you and we believe in you crap. 😂. That’s the weirdest stuff I’ve ever seen. Can’t help but just laugh at some people. lol. Anyway, you’re exactly right JP, he’s going to be a huge part to this team and is going to be fine.

Anyone personally sending him **** in his DMs are scumbags.
Agreed, they shouldn’t do anything like that but these players wanted to be paid. They are paid handsomely and now they are treated like pros. They can’t hide behind kids in school anymore either. Nobody should message them personally though. Just talking about it online is fair game.

This is why some top players refuse to come. It has nothing to do with the coach.
I don’t agree with that, any competitor should want to play for the best and have expectations. The ones who don’t can go play for a program nobody follows. They will have expectations everywhere in the big time now. Almost every D1 program who pays them expects things now. This will happen anywhere.

Jesus Christ - this is truly the craziest fan base in the country. When you're scaring kids into shutting their IG accounts down, it's an explicit example of the nut factory that BBN is.

And you wonder why BBN can't get a better coach than Pope. Do effen better. You want a better coach than Pope, need to show you deserve it.
Half of this is other fan bases trolling. The other half is kids, derelicts and generally bad people.
You say that, yet it's unheard of in other programs. It becomes trolling because other fanbases know they can get into the psyche of the nut factory.

Yeah, it's all made up. Use common sense. This is the kind of stuff Pope should address in his next presser with some balls so people start respecting him.

Not an instagram user but he may have been able to turn off messages? Of course that would cut off the chicks also. Perhaps he could block people and move on as well. I don’t know. Seems over the top unless he was threatened- then get the police involved.

Fascinating. Then how did Cal get the better players all those years without NIL?

Our fans were way worse to Cals one and done freshmen then the current NIL mercenaries. We had higher expectations then so the bad part of the fanbase came out louder.

As others have said, 100% unacceptable to contact players or coaches. Thats crossing a line.
I’m sure he was being sarcastic. At least I hope so. What happens here has never cost us any player.

You gonna tell Ulis that he wasn't a baller or should I? 😂
Zoom has never played like Ulis in college either though. He’s just not equipped to be a top PG. He was highly ranked but I have no idea why. Every team he has played on has been mediocre because he is mediocre running the show. It’s not his fault he was offered the money and position, but he better play way better for those expectations that come with the money and position. I don’t think he has the ability to honestly, but I will support him and hope he plays better. He certainly has the frame and size to defend, and drive and dish/finish. He just hasn’t so far.

The mistake of recruiting was seeking two point guards that are use to playing with the ball in their hands vs. assists or drives and dish. In the 3 exhibition games I saw very little passing except around the perimeter by the guards running the point.
That’s why we play so much better with Mason. He drives and dishes and runs the offense. He looks really good out there and he can shoot.

Finally saw a bit of passing to the interior in OT last night. Bigs need to get open to take the pass, and guards need to look and see the whole court rather than looking down or directly in front of them. That's on Pope. I saw plenty of times in fact most of the time in the first three games where guys are making cuts to get open and the guards aren't even looking at them. Again, Pope needs to address that.

It’s a good thing to do. Social media has contributed to societies downfall imho. It is filled with nothing but negativity and it affects everyone’s mentally badly at some point.

There's no way you can say that Ulis, one of the best point guards that Cal ever coached, with that dawg in him, a defensive menace with a high IQ and elite court vision, on one of the best college basketball teams ever assembled, wasn't a baller just because he ain't in the rafters. One of the absolute most beloved cats of all time.

We are deeply unserious if the only players we allow ourselves to like, compliment, enjoy watching, and reminisce are those in the rafters.

By that logic, you aren't allowed to enjoy Prince's five threes in a row, Anthony Davis's blocks, Rondo's dishes, Jorts's grit, or Antoine Walker's shimmies.

C'mon, Man. 😂
Tyler has a chance to be up there one day if they’ll start putting in more guys who deserve to be up there. I could see him in twenty thirty years being in. Of course he’s down the list but he’s an all time Wildcat in my book. Seriously we’re way overdue to be adding players up there in my opinion. At least one a year now. I say fill it up. 🤣.

One or two jackholes on the interwebz makes a threat, which seems like a legal issue. And now clowns are using it to broadbrush the majority of Kentucky fans now?
Seems like a pretentious way of attempting to use this to mute justified criticism from the fanbase.

Just cuz kids are getting a bag, they're full grown adults?
No, they’re “full grown adults” because they LITERALLY are full grown adults …regardless of whether they’re getting a bag …as a matter of indisputable fact. I mean, you do know the legal age of adulthood is 18, right?

Contacting these players directly is inexcusable. Period. Nonetheless, I think it’s silly the way some of our fans infantilize these players by acting like grown men in their 20s making seven figures are just “kids.”

So only NBA players are qualified to be called ballers?

That’s quite a novel position you staked out there.
i think a smart place to start is to make an elite club vs anyone who has shot a basketball. to compare zoom diallo to ulis is the actual insult.

Intolerable? Impatient? My guy we are currently in the worst stretch in program history. We haven’t been to the final four in over a decade. We haven’t won a title in almost 15 years. We haven’t even won a sec title in like 7 years! We are overly patient imo. We even backed a coach who had never won a single tourney game (insanity)when he was hired. We used to have more sec reg season title and tournament titles then the rest of the conference combined. This isn’t normal. We have been mediocre for too long and it is not acceptable.
I agree
I don’t think anyone should attack a player directly, it’s crazy. Having said that, it’s not the fans fault that we have been very mediocre for basically 7-8 years.
We haven’t been a threat to win anything for a while and this year doesn’t look great. I know the season is new and we could win it all, but based on Popes track record, I don’t see that happening.

“Grow up, kid. It’s not a big deal, that’s just how social media is”

^ That doesn’t work in this day and age. Every generation thinks their generation is superior but each one is really just different. For kids of that age, social media is a really big deal. Shutting it down is a sign something truly has bothered the kid. And I hate that — no one should be subject to this type of behavior over a basketball game. I’m one of the most basketball-junkiest basketball junkies there is, but there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed. Yes, this stuff matters to prospective coaches and recruits — players and their parents have been talking about it for some time but some of us refuse to listen. And I’ll lay it out there — I think the kid sucks as a basketball player…I have no idea why Pope wanted him, but he’s a kid and we need to behave. Some stuff shouldn’t even need to be said.

You think bitching and whining during October is going to get him fired? No it’s not. All it does is cause the players to feel unsupported and continue the narrative that UK fans are whiny and unreasonable. Trust me, the program is going to be fine with or without you. Hopefully you can relax enough to see it play out.

Eh, I've taught college. The students are kids with cars and a caffeine addiction... Tobacco and alcohol too if they're in the trade programs. Having money and being some magical age doesn't make someone an adult.

For a lot of intents and purposes, 18 is just the age a lot of kids can start making decisions without their parents' consent. Going farther back, it was the age the US military determined you were useful enough to hold a gun and die in Vietnam. Turning 18 doesn't magically cause someone's prefrontal cortex to develop overnight. It doesn't magically make them more emotionally, physically, or mentally mature. It doesn't come with the knowledge gained from all the lessons and tribulations of young adulthood that shape middle and late adulthood.

So yeah, I don't give some arbitrary legal age any credence when it comes to actual human development, especially when a person that age can't buy their own tobacco, alcohol, or rent a car. 🤷‍♂️

I have advice for him - Put your head down and go to work, let it fuel you. Be so good they can't sit you, improve 1percent a day at EVERYTHING, handles, shooting, defense, strength ALL of it.

Also this is what you signed up for, just remember as bad as the fans can be when you are down they can be really great when you play well.

Embrace, don't run from it.

This isnt a good sign. Before the season even started. Knowing your spot will be taken by the coaches freshman son. Not that Williams doesn't deserve it but its still got to feel bad.

Is zoom going to man up and put in some work or lay down and pull a wheeler? Season hangs on it. Kind of. Dont see much happening either way.

“Embrace, don’t run from it” is great advice for fan backlash for a bad performance. “Embrace, don’t run from it” is reckless advice if there were death threats. Absolutely inexcusable. And frankly reading up through this thread, there are people trying to soften the seriousness of this…like why!? There’s literally ZERO good reason for it to happen AT ALL period. I don’t care if we were 0-148 in the last four seasons.

Imagine if so.e of the GREAT UK players in the past had to deal with the limp d#@k posters we have today. Tony Delk the best guard we ever had was terrible as a freshman, so was Tayshun Prince. Today they would be written of and hounded by the lunatics online. I really hate the culture that exists on the internet. Limp wristed pajama boys or goober legend in their own mind ex high school players posting the most scurillous nonsense attacking them before the real season gets started. The internet culture is cowardly, people saying things anonymously that they wouldn't have the stones to say to anyone's face.

I tend to be pretty negative and have a never satisfied mindset when it comes to sports (coaching has been a big part of my life). It actually annoys me when people are over the top enthusiastic about the team and they get pissed any time someone mentions a concern or flaw. I just don't work like that. With that said, you have to be a real loser to get on social media and direct your frustration at a player. Never make it personal. I know every fan base has some of this, so I don't think it's uniquely a Kentucky problem. I also think rival fans contribute to this problem as well. Just think of how many trolls we have on this forum...I bet some of those losers have "Kentucky" social media accounts just to make the fan base look worse.

I mean half of these people could not even be UK fans, if so they are just the worse. But not all of us are like that. Heck I actually like Zoom, he brings something different, his lack of shooting is an issue he needs to work on but other than that I like his energy.
