Just wait until we fire Pope, which is likely this March, and still don’t hit a home run and gamble on yet another unkown. No big time established coach wants to inherit a couple million assistant coaches with career 0-0 records.

This fanbase is an albatross and a net negative for basketball. I know that’s gonna make some of y’all mad, but it’s my opinion.

Too many of us have a bad case of main character syndrome and think we matter way more than we do. We are the best fans in the nation but it’s conditional - must win all the time. When that condition isn’t met, we are the worst, meanest and most vile fanbase in the country because we take this stuff personally and will happily eat our own.

Come here to piss and moan but stay off the players’ social media. Don’t start talking **** to the coach’s relatives, etc, etc.
Best post I've seen in awhile, in particular the third paragraph, fully accurate.

It's fine to express frustration with a coach - that's what he's paid handsomely for. Leave the kids alone. Do you think it helps the team when you attack a kid on IG? It's part of the problem. Now you have a disengaged kid who is scared of a fanbase, that seeps into the locker room. Unless it's a way to sabotage Pope, congrats.

So what if the fanbase travels well. Support the kids through tough times, that's a good fanbase.

Hard for me to believe fans were threatening him over exhibitions unless they were idiots that bet on the game, though some probably did say something too critical about his lackluster play thus far. Also consider that he's maybe seeing the writing on the wall regarding his starting spot and Mason, and wants to tune out the noise when the change happens. I've said before that fans need to keep criticism on message boards or their own social media pages and away from the players pages, but you can't control everyone in or out of a fandom from doing or saying something stupid.

What I do know is DUKE fans literally threatened to murder Cayden Boozer after his Elite 8 meltdown, and they aren't having a problem getting recruits, so the "who would want to play for this TOXIC fanbase????" copeaganda from the usual B.S. artists on here can miss me with that. By that logic why would anyone want to play anywhere with high standards?

By this logic we have to cheer for failure or risk more failure. Doesnt hold up. Accountability is the path.

I have faith in Batt to not hire someone just because he played here 30 years ago. Coaching hires can be a gamble, but pretty much the entire fanbase knew this was a terrible hire from the beginning. Most of us bought in on giving him a shot, but clearly our first reaction was correct (possibly even worse now, had no idea Pope was so stubborn and weird).

Too many no class, no sense, untethered, and entitled morons that demand a license to be such and cry like hit dogs at the suggestion that a life of being trash is unacceptable.

Stop the excuses, lame rationalizations, and finger pointing.

Be that as it may, if opposing fan trolls didn't have near infinite cover they wouldn't have near the opportunities and would stick out like a sore thumb instead of easily folding into the crowd.

Dudes sound like Jake Elwood in the tunnel making excuses to Carrie Fisher with a gun in his face on here.

The problem is some of us and some more of us wagon circling for the malicious actors.

No doubt. His way of handling the scrutiny is by growing a beard and trying to learn a tough guy pose. This delusional fanbase needs an alpha and a leader, someone that knows how to run the ship with comprehension.

I don't know if Jai Lucas is that. He has all the presence of Irkel. I can see him imploding. Not an SEC coach.

You know who I think the guy is. I would get this guy wrapped up before any other big seats open up.

He’s under 40. Recruits well. Seems to have a pretty brazen personality. Only problem is he jumped from South Florida to Providence after one season. I’m a little worried we’d just be another stepping stone for like the NBA.

I was at the game and did not hear a single booing fan the entire game. I saw some head shaking when we made bad TO's but never heard a boo. Multiple other fans on X who were at the game also claimed they did not hear a single fan booing at the game. The guy who made the assertion saw one fan who booed IIRC. One dude does not represent the entire fanbase.
That’s fantastic. Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s all I ever asked. Just wanted verification.

If he has the right personality, it’s still better than Pope. The man doesn’t have the right mindset to coach at Kentucky. He can’t wrangle the players nor fans like Cal could. We certainly can’t allow Pope to remain in the job and emotionally collapse. That would like way worse than looking for some unknown with the right personality to fit this job.

Pope and Kentucky fans are simply incompatible with one another. Pope cannot set boundaries between his players and fans properly.

I seen a thing where like 25% of Gen Z views sports betting as a legitimate Retirement investment. I can’t believe it, like this whole generation will end up degen gamblers and broke. Vegas doesn’t lose over time, they aren’t all insiders who can manipulate the system either.
I'm an older millennial and I can definitely say my generation was viewed very negatively by previous gens too. Gen Z will be fine...it's just different. I work will all kinds of absolutely brilliant Gen Zers

It was an exhibition game dude. He's new to UK. Boo the coach, support the players.
I don’t boo anyone. But I’m also not going to bash fellow fans and follow along when they say “Believe in 5” or you’re the problem. The professional basketball players inability to play basketball is the only issue. New to UK or not he’s a senior who is making $4 million for this season. $100k a game. He can buck up a little.

So you’re ok with people booing the players (because they are being payed). But you don’t want those who boo to be called out because it makes the fanbase look bad.

you are lost homey.

Nobody booed, homey. You established that. So you are the one making the fans look bad by perpetuating the thing that did not happen. Which seems to be a recurring issue for you here.

I suppose you prefer to just stick your head in the sand and pretend it didn't happen. Good approach. Oh, and btw a response to poor fan behavior doesn't make the program look bad but it does make the fanbase look bad and that's ok because I believe in accountability.
All of this based on the assumption that it did happen when it did not. But you were glad to attack anyone you deemed guilty of this thing or supported the thing that did not happen. I got a right to be hostile. My people been persecuted.

I never said anyone bood. It was a claim on Twitter. I asked if anyone could verify. What part of that hurt your butt?

Your logic of reasoning that it's "normal" and "regular" for a fanbase to chase a kid off IG, impeccable.

It's symptomatic of the outside view of the UK fanbase being heathens and why it then becomes that much more challenging to land a great coach or bring great recruits in. Do you think player X is going to want to come to UK when they know the fanbase throws a knipshit over an exhibition game and stalks/threatens on IG?

What "established" coach in today's NIL era, which has completely stripped down the need for brand to recruit, wants to deal with a fanbase that ran a HOF out of town and is chasing kids off social media over an exhibition game? Cal seems as happy as a pig in S in Arkansas.

There are so few great coaches today, it may get to a point where top coaches say F that place if fans can't control themselves over an exhibition game.
That’s a straw man, another logical fallacy. I never stated or even implied such a thing. Keep digging, you’re amusing.

Running a brand new starting PG off Social Media because of an exhibition game that doesn't matter is something special. It's effen embarrassing. I feel terrible for the kid. You don't think that kid is trying? It's basically practice. 6 assists to 2 TO's, so he shot poorly. You don't attack an effen kid over it.
“Kid”

You’re so bad at this it’s embarrassing

Kentucky isn't for everyone. I suspect the stage is too big for Zoom. Has a bit of that Ryan Harrow feel to it already.
No one turned on harrow before the regular season started. Not even wheeler got this much flak this early. I think zoom is taking strays aimed at pope to some degree. Just too much negativity in general.

Exactly. Kids not coming here has nothing to do with our fanbase. Go look at the message board of OSU after a football loss. Using that as an excuse for poor recruiting is disingenuous imo.

Yeah and they only lose like 1-2 times a year most years. They go insane but have zero issue stacking loads of talent.

Social media is such a detriment to society and this is just one way it rears its ugly head. It doesn’t have to be this way either. We are at the mercy of billionaires.

Hey one thing for sure mark pope will be here until April. So you can either whine, cry and act like a miserable embesil. You can choose to support this team and try to have fun with it if not you have more issues than a basketball game.
