Wasn't too impressed with him during this game from what I saw of him. That's not to say he's not good or anything, just looked like he wasn't comfortable. Got pushed around a lot and needs to add some strength for sure. I know 1 game is no indication really of anything. I still think he will be really good.

The commentators basically kept saying how weak this class was overall and how their were so few who could be one and done. I agree

Not sure what you were watching but he looked very good defensively and should have played more. The world team struggled against his length. Held his ground, blocked a couple of shots, contested a few more.

That's okay, we need a few guys that will stick around 2-3 years and want to play in college/aren't in a rush to go pro.

I like Zimmerman as a prospect. Good offensive skill, gets up and down the court pretty good, and plays with energy. His defense isn't terrible, and what he needs to learn on that end Cal can teach him because he has the athleticism to get a lot better. I don't see him as a Wiltjer or even Willis-type liability out there because of he's a much better athlete and seems willing to put in the work to improve all-around. It's a lot harder to teach natural offensive skill. He reminds me of a lot of the big men that have given us fits over the years (including one that ended our undefeated season).

Sign him up right now. No clue what the OP is watching. Must be dazzled by all the guards running up and down the court jacking up terrible shots. He's better offensively, now, than Lee will be in 5 years. He has very good touch. He's not an awful defender. He's a highly intelligent player as well. Will look great in UK blue if he chooses to come here.

Just because an analyst says there a few OAD's doesn't mean players who should stay in college for multiple years will. It's the players' decisions to make and some players think they are better than they really are. You can't keep those guys from leaving for, in their minds, the NBA.

I thought he was solid, looked very comfortable with the ball. Not a banger in any way but the kid has offensive sills.

Already has nice offensive skills. He can shoot, drive and pass. If he winds up at UK he should add some muscle over the summer and his D will probably improve noticeably as well by February. Would love to have him for a couple of years.

From what we've seen recently, we don't necessarily need insanely athletic (WCS) or brute strength (Dakari) players inside. Give me a few guys with a decent touch and skill. This is what Cousins, Davis and Towns had.

Both Skal and Zimmerman can clearly get stronger, but both have hands and skills. Especially Skal.

Been critical of him the past year and a half but he impressed me today with his jumper and ability to go from the top of the key to the rim on either side. Anyone that tall will influence shots, but we can't have another team with 3 seven footers who can't score.

lol at this OP .haha. Zimmerman was by far the best center in this game as skal and Simmons are pf. Z is sooooo damn good .best true center in thesenior class with only stone close .Zimmerman is much better then swanigan and jetetr who both play below the rim.

LOL @ OP....I want Zimmerman now!!!...over Thon Maker....Maker has alot of work to do. Zimmerman was very impressive putting the ball on the floor and being left handed he will get easy baskets in college...can also shoot from outside. What are you watching OP??..confused. Cal we need Newman..Zimmerman and Diallo.

He could dribble drive better than WCS, but he is not going to be as physical as it takes to be a successful center in the SEC next season until he adds more strength. I was impressed with his overall play. He is not a game changer but a good fit in combo with guys like Poythress orSkal.

With Skal, Lee and Poythress, Zimmerman will be expected to play a role like Dakari/Lee played in 2013-14. Minutes inside, but he'll still be a guy everyone wishes they had off the bench.

Zimmerman would get to play a lot and even if he didn't start, I figure he would get starter minutes or close to it. He seems like a Zeller-like player, which would be great with me.

Some of you are just straight a*#holes. I swear some of you make this board so miserable sometimes. Its a damn shame cause there are some really good posters on here that provide some great insight but its ruined by the tools that think they know everything. I didn't say he wasn't going to be good, I didnt say he sucked, and I didn't say I wouldn't love to have him. I just said from what I saw of him, I wasn't greatly impressed TODAY and I thought he got pushed around. No matter how some of you try to spin it and try to turn it around into something, thats all i said! What's so bad about that? I've seen him other times and have been very impressed on some of those occasions. So, relax guys!! I'm not bashing the kid. I want the kid in blue. If you want to argue, go over to another teams board. I'm sure they'll argue with you all day but some of you should realize that we are not enemies on this board. You pounce when someone posts something you don't agree with or something you don't like. I can understand people getting upset with trolls trying to cause problems but some of you snap at anything! UKCATSFREAK is definitely NOT a troll and doesn't deserve to be treated like that.

Some you same posters say and even guarantee crazy things like we have 8 players who will be AA, or a player is coming back because he has a friend on the team or that a 17 year old tweener is an NBA starer today.

What he stated wasn't crazy, just an opinion, I don't necessarily agree with his view today, I have had some doubts about Zim, but he definitely has improved his game.

I like Zimmerman a lot. He handles the ball very well and is a real good shooter. His defense is good but will get better. I hope UK get him. Needs to get stronger but most kids do at that age.

Zimmerman is on of the most skilled big men in the last few years. He can shoot out to the 3 point line. He can dribble (did you see him take it foul line to foul line?) and he can pass the ball. He will be devastating in a high low set. He is not the back to the basket threat that Okafer was but he does EVERY THING else better. Does he need to get stronger ? Sure. Does he have lots to learn about defense and offensive footwork? Sure. But this kid can really play.

Parenthetically, I was most impressed by Simmons and Skal. Both will be NBA All Stars by 2019.
A UK five of Skal ,Big Z, Ulis, Ingram and Briscoe backed up by Newman , Diallo and Poythress would get to the final four (again).

Maker,Jeter and Brown were somewhat disappointing to me.

Wynyard, the youngest player on the floor , will become a better player than Dakari or Harrelson. He has size, strength and very quick feet (Did you see that spin move early in the game?). He also plays hard and has a nice touch around the hoop.

The Murray kid from Canada is special.

I want the kid too, never said I didn't. In fact, I said that I did but Zimmerman also has a lot of work to do. I do agree with you about being left handed and being an advantage for him. I hope Cal would use him ala Frank Kaminsky. I think he fits that mode of player. Play him on the elbow or 3 point line and give him that room to take guys off the dribble or run the P and R with him. I think he will be very good here and I'd love to sign him, I just wasn't too impressed TODAY from what I saw. I must of missed some of his impressive plays that some are talking about, which is possible. I didn't watch every second but I did watch most of the game.

zimmerman wasnt that impressive despite hitting outside jumpers, taking the ball to the rim from 15 feet, and getting a few tough rebounds, all while have NOTHING run for him.

but....

people LOVE willis and think he is the greatest

Gee, feeling a little thin-skinned today? Think maybe you overreacted just a wee bit? Only person I see arguably getting out of line in this exchange is you.

I do agree with your points, but you do realize that

Cousin was the strongest player we had, he would outmuscle Dakari no problem.
Davis was insanely athletic (and long)

KAT wouldn't be what you would call brute strength, but he was intact very strong.

Zimmerman, Ingram and Newman would be my favorites for Cal to sign. Diallo is super athletic but possesses zero offensive skill in the half court. Brown is a beast but I just have a feeling he wants to go elsewhere based upon his interviews.

Why wpuld you want to start Briscoe over Newman? Why start our backup point guard at shooting guard over Newman, who is one of, if not the best players in the entire class? Not sure what the OP wanted out of big Z. I can understand maybe Z not being one of your favorite players in the class, but to say you weren't impressed doesn't make any sense to me. Why cry and rant about posters being mean to you? When you take an opinion that isn't shared by most on this forum, you're going to get drilled. You either learn to post with thicker skin or stop posting.

Basketball PLAYERS are so much better than "athletes"!! To play the game, one should know how to SHOOT, PASS, dribble and screen!!

sadly--b'ball has become all about "athletes" not capable of any fundamental.

SAD isn't it?

I agree that Zimmerman didn't have his best game today. I agree he needs to add some strength, particularly in his base.

Having said that, he had a stretch early in the second half when he impressed me. He made a couple moves in the paint, hr made a jumper from the wing, and he made a couple key stops on defense and grabbed a key rebound.

I say all that to say this: I'd love to have this guy next year. I like his game. He reminds me of a Christian Laetner type. He's big, he's competitive, he can handle the ball very well for a guy his size, he can shoot with range, he can play with his back to the basket or facing. He's a versatile guy who can play multiple positions and defend multiple positions. His strength issues can be fixed with ease and I think he's gonna be very good. He may not be a one and done but that's ok. He will contribute right away because of his size and skill.

Wasn't personal? "YOU have no clue what YOU are talking about". Is that not personal? Cause anytime the word You or OP was posted, they weren't talking in general talk I can tell you that. I think my reaction wasnt just about this thread but a build up over the last week of what seems like the same posters just being an ***. No other way to put it. Some laugh and call you clueless if you don't have same opinion as them. I could see being bashed if I came on here and said the kid sucked and could not play at this level. I have reacted negatively on some OP who have posted threads that were not constructive and just meant to anger but I didn't say anything of the sort. I know he is skilled and I know his skills well as I've watched him play many times. I know what he can do and what I think he needs to work on to be elite at the next level. That's not a knock on the kid cause everyone of those players need to work on things.
Disagree with me is fine, I even welcome it cause its cool to have adult discussions on here. But for guys to get on here and say I don't know what I'm talking about and Zimmerman can do this and that and is awesome and blah blah blah is frustrating. They should go back and read what I said. I don't usually start post because of this very reason. Some take what you say and twist it so that they can act like they know so much more. Its not a contest. I don't care if others know more about a kid than me. That's great! Maybe they can teach me a bit more about that kid.
As far as Zimmerman, I was simply stating what I witnessed TODAY. And maybe I didn't see some of the other plays that some are talking referring to here. That is quite possible as I was working on some other things as I watched. Its all irrelevant cause its the way people react that frustrating. Post something that asks what I thought about a certain.play or ask why I wasn't too impressed or say that disagree and you were impressed but why say......"LOL @ the OP* or "you are clueless OP* or *you have no clue what you're talking about* ? Its just unnecessary and also ridiculous and is getting so old coming from the same people everyday. It is what it is I guess. Some people can hide behind a computer and act all mighty ams that will probably never change on here.

Obviously the OP didn't see the big man lead a fast break for the full court and finished it with an assist That certainly wasn't the only thing he did, but it certainly caught my attention to see a 7 footer accomplish that.

What was wrong with the screen comment? You hear 'ball screen' a million times per game!!! I totally agree with her about basketball skills and the lack thereof in today's game. How come it is so hard to find a shooter in this upcoming class? Because kids would rather drive and slash - take it to the rim - 'and 1' ...

Just in the last week you've heard a couple people call out men's college bball as horrible. It's the lack of basketball skills that have lead to the reduction in scoring.

IMO he is a more athletic version of the guy that put 20 on us a week ago. His footwork and move set isn't there yet by to me has a similar game.

I don't know what you saw, but I was at the game and he played a fairly good game. Nothing that amazed me, but he played a fairly solid game. Him and Skal were really getting into it in the post.
