Talked to a guy today said he walked away because the grind was too hard on his body. At least thats what he is telling friends.. i hadn't heard an update anywhere but doesn't sound like him coming back is a possibility.. just posting what he said to this kid who are friends with Z..

Hopefully it works out for the kid , whatever he chooses to do the rest of his life. If it wasn’t for Covid he wouldn’t have gotten in to any college, and as for his friends, he doesn’t hang with other Football players or Athletes, very difficult to succeed at this level when your circle is not athletes, hard to keep the focus needed, anyway like I said good luck to the young man.
I really don't most people realize the hours these dudes put in...it sucks if you don't love it.
I teach at a great HS and every year I have a more than a few students that decide they are going "Pre-Med"
But most change their major after the first year...the commitment is just insane.

It's a shame but some of the most talented kids either get injured or flame out for one reason or another. Best of luck to him.

Thats funny cause according to him they all just made the decision last week.. but your the man and probably have more input than me.. im just posting things I hear from people close to the situation
It's easier in H.S. and at each level it gets harder and some just aren't up to the task. I'm sure Mickey had a very long conversation with Betts about what was expected of him and Betts decided he was better off walking away. Bottom line, this was best for both parties, it's hard to put the yoke back into a broken egg. Best of luck to this young man and I hope he gets everything worked out.
Yes the door was open for his return but I don’t think anyone really expected him to stay on the roster
Football is not for everybody. Sadly Betts has/had enough talent to be a Sunday player. Generally when guys give it up they don't have his level of talent. That's why most people are so disappointed. I hate it for the team but end of the day it's his body and his decision. Just hope 5,6,7 years down the line he doesn't regret it.

Don't really think he has an NFL body. But then neither does WanDale and he's at least cashing in.
His frame was 6'2 and close to 200 pounds. That's PLENTY of frame to begin with for an NFL WR. Especially one that had 2 more years left in college and would likely fill out even more with a professional strength staff. My guess is that Beets would've played around 6'2-6'3 210-215 pounds. That's PLENTY big as an NFL WR.

Betts’ athleticism and measurables were NFL quality. His commitment to the game was decidedly not.

Going by the eyeball test, not stats. Seemed a bit lean to take the pounding he would get in the NFL. I suppose if he put in the work it would be different.
