This is just based from the blue white game.

PG - Maxey - Love his speed just well balance on both ends of the court. He is so explosive that he will be hard to defend. I also like he's very unselfish and moves the offense with purpose.

SG - Quickley - Playing determine attacking the basket with great speed, tremendous defense and one of our best shooters.

SF - Whitney - Wow just an explosive athlete that will continue to get better with time. How scary is that?

PF - Sestina - I'm so glad he's at UK. Perfect stretch 4 that is dangerous on the perimeter. He plays smart, very balance and has good instincts. He is someone that will add consistency and stability to the offense.

PF/CT - Montgomery - He is capable but like to see a bit more agression. He adds more to this position than what we have in Nick.

Note: I was very impress with Brooks his offense is ahead of his defense but will be one of our most serviceable players and will probably get a chance to start some throughout the season.

I actually agree 100% and said the same the other day. I think Maxey and IQ is our best backcourt.

that being said the other poster above is right. Hagans is Cal’s boy, no way he doesn’t start no matter what imo

Hagans will start, but Maxey will get his along with IQ. I do expect 3 guard lineups eventually. Cal will experiment early to see how they play defense against bigger opponents.

This year, I don’t think the starting 5 will necessarily be the same 5 players who receive the most playing time. Fouls, matchups, and scoring considerations will determine who gets the most playing time. Here is the starting 5.

Richards
Montgomery
Brooks
Maxey
Hagans

Sestina, Quickley, and Whitney will be on the floor as much as most of the starters.

Probably the best line up for opening night against State.
Still think EJ starts and Nate is 6th man if for no other reason than Nate is more mature and not starting won't faze him a bit.

I feel the BEST 5 at the end of the year will be
PG: Quickley
SG: Maxey
SF: Whitney
PF: Brooks
C: Richards

But the starting 5 (especially at the beginning of the year) will be
PG: Hagans
SG: Maxey
SF: Whitney
PF: Montgomery or Sestina
C: Richards

As others have said, Cal has to get Hagans to the NBA this year to make room for other guys coming in, even if Quickley might be the best option at point. He’ll run with Hagans and Montgomery in the starting line-up even if Quickley and Sestina/Brooks are better offensive players. Just my two cents.

Hagans Maxey are the only locks to start no one in their right mind could disagree with that . Hagans is quite possibly the 2nd best pg in the cbb and Maxey IS the best SG IMO in cbb.

So I will round out the starting 5 with Whitney Sestina and Richards . With that said I think we play 7-8 guys almost equal minutes this year so who starts doesn't matter much.

I think we overrate Hagans a bit. I’m not nearly as bullish on him as some of our other fans. 2nd best PG in college basketball?

Like the last few seasons, I think who we have on the court in the final five minutes will be different from who we start the game with. I don't think Nick and Khalil will see much action down the stretch, but I think both will start.

Starters:
Hagans
Maxey
Whitney
EJ
Nick

Crunch time:
Hagans
Maxey
IQ
Brooks
Sestina

Agreed. Idk why some people fly off the handle about him. I think it may just be that we don’t usually get a Calipari PG back for year two. I think he’ll most certainly be better, but I also don’t see one off season being enough to make him one of the top 3 PG in college b-ball. Hope to eat crow

Hagans will start, Whitney will not. So talented but yet so raw. Also not sure we start out with 3 guards even though I think we play a lot of the game with 3, especially if they are shooting lights out.

Just taking a stab based off of Cal's loyalty I'll say

Hagans
Maxey
IQ
EJ
Nick

3 So, 1 Jr, 1 Fr

Not sure this will happen but would but would bet the house Hagans, EJ, Nick and Maxey are in starting 5. Could see Cal going more traditional and putting Whitney at the wing instead of 3 guard with IQ.

I think it will be:

G Hagans
G Maxey
F Whitney
F Montgomery
F Richards

To close out close games, I think Quickley and Sestina have to be in there for their overall efficiency.

G Hagans
G Maxey
G Quickley
F Sestina
F Montgomery

I think that will be our best lineup. Might switch Richards and Montgomery, possibly.

He is defintely not a top 3 pg in college basketball, that said i think some people are on the other end and far underrate him because he struggles shooting. He plays with a good understanding for the pace and is very good defensively. I think with his frame if he can improve at finishing at the rim instead of always kicking it out he is enough of a threat to lead us to a championship with the pieces we have around him.

I think your first mistake was to base your starting 5 on the BW game...

Better than the blind and mindless threads about who will be our starting 5 back in June/July. I think we can gather a lot from the BW game tbh. We are dealing with freshman and seeing how they play for the second time is telling. Right now there is no other way to evaluate things other than opinion. We ll see but based off BW and if cal is honest not playing favorites this squad needs the most minutes

Hagans
Quickley
Maxey
Brooks
Sestina.

Maybe the best combo will be
Hagans
Quickley
Maxey
Sestina
Nick or ej

I agree with you on every point here.

However, if the question is who will start, I'm thinking Hagans gets the nod, especially early in the season. Now, it may be Hagans and Maxey. But man, with the way Quickley looked in that Blue White game, it's gonna be tough to keep him off the floor.

Here's the 5 I think we see day one...
Hagans
Maxey
Whitney
Sestina
Montgomery
