Bad baserunning by Hatcher. Stopped way too early to see if the ball was caught. There’s no way he would’ve scored if he’d been sent. If he runs past second base before stopping to see if the ball was caught, he scored and the tying run is at third base with one out.

Hatcher’s run does not mean **** if you can’t score Rowdy. You never take an RBI opportunity out of the hands of someone like Allen. 2 runners is scoring position Is always the answer unless it’s a sure fire no play at home. And it was not. Very likely Hatcher gets thrown out.

In the replay you see the ball go flying by towards the catcher. If he had gone and got tagged out we would not have won that game. Period. Sure there is a chance he scores but honestly its pretty slim chance

In Hatcher's defense, he kinda had to hold up to see if the ball got over the center fielder's head. It was not clear until the very last second that the CF was burned.

Hatcher doesn't have a crystal ball there. You have to remember the angle he had. The CF was tracking that ball pretty good and almost got there. Hatcher has to make sure that ball is down before he rounds second, or he's going to be doubled off. What he did in that situation was textbook.

And as someone else mentioned, it's at least arguable that the CF should have caught that. I think he got a bad jump on it.

Rowdey had a different angle, so he was more aggressive.

It was only going to be a standup triple because the throw was going home. The ball was coming back in towards home over Rowdy’s head about the time he stepped on 2nd base.

Replay shows Hatcher +/- 30 feet short of 2nd base when the ball gets by the CF. He has no chance to get doubled up even if that CF makes a diving play back into the gap.

BUT… Add a wrinkle:
If Hatcher had rounded third and been safe at home, Rowdy is standing on third. We’re down 4-3 with 1 out. 1st and 2nd are open.
They would have absolutely intentionally walked TA to set up the double play. No 3 run bomb. Now, runners on the corners with 1 out.
They would pitch to Hancock different with runners on.

Maybe he doesn’t single. Maybe he hits into a double play.

Watching the replay you could see the ball come in the infield as Hatcher stops. Unless they threw it away he was dead at the plate.
