Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard has been my favorite podcast since it debuted 2 years ago. Anybody that was a wrestling fan from the late 80’s through the mid 2000s needs to check it out. Bruce worked backstage in the WWF from 1987 until 2008 and pretty much knows everything about what was going on in the company during this time.

Mike Rowe- the way I heard it, think Paul Harvey's "rest of the story" if you're old enough
From the ground up
The indicator - pretty liberal views on economy but I like it
Motley Fool Answers - by far best show motley fool makes, usually pretty informative if personal finance/investing interest you
freely admit - I can't listen to long podcasts, the first three are usually 10 min max, the fourth is 40 min

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. I can't recommend it enough.

That's the only non State sports one to which I listen & almost religiously follow.

I have listened to Serial & Joe Rogan. They are both good.

I’m a big fan of the Freakonomic books, but their podcast seems really dense. Did I just pick a couple of bad episodes?

Have you listen to any of Gladwell’s Broken Record? It’s been enjoyable. He did an RH episode on ‘Why Can Only Country Music Sing Sad Songs’, and there is a similar episode on Broken Record.

I saw it suggested twice in this thread so I have to ask what is it that gets people going with Malcolm Gladwell? Just my opinion but he seems to deal a lot more in correlation than causation to me; kind of a pop-psychology/sociology bent that just makes me roll my eyes too often.

I like it because I like to question everything. I enjoy playing devils advocate even if the viewpoint that am examining is completely opposite of what I truly believe.

I really like Hardcore History, too. He does a series called "Countdown to Armageddon" about WWI that I thought was very entertaining. It's probably about 20 hours worth of content, though, so you better dig in.

  • Hardcore History (my favorite episodes are Punic Nightmares and Prophets of Doom)
  • The History of Rome
  • Revolutions

I also listened to one called The History of Exploration that ended suddenly incomplete but was very interesting, with mostly stuff I had no idea about at all

I like Bill Burr Monday Morning Podcast. And Joe Roegan. As far as local podcasts go, I prefer More Cowbell and Greatest Pod of the South.

Dr. Death - really good; dude has Mississippi connections

S-Town

In the Dark - season 2 about the Winona murders

Freakonomics

BBC Global News Pod - just a nice quick daily news roundup

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History - I like the King of Kings episodes, but they’re all good

Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me

Up First

The Dropout- but I’d also highly suggest the book it’s based on, Bad Blood

Gladiator - about Aaron Hernandez

Not every freakonomics podcast is good but there are some really good ones. One of the more recent ones on the future of beef is fascinating. I honestly dont like music enough for broken record but i can see where people would love it

Id say its the opposite. He is all about facts/data/evidence. Foot Soldier and the broken accelerator case are two of the best ive ever listened to

Been listening to Conan's new one Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend.

If you like Conan, it's pretty damn funny with basically his favorite guests. Great chemistry.

I enjoy the "Team Never Quit" With Marcus Luttrell. They always have really good guests on that have motivating and inspiring stories. I'll also listen to Joe Rogan's when it's a guest that interests me. Not sure what your political leaning is but Ben Shapiro's podcast is good also.

How did this get made
Joe Rogans episodes with Alex Jones - one was last week, the other was ep 911. Collectively probably 6-7hrs of the best entertainment you will ever get
Serial is great
**** Town is also very good
If you like TV shows, look up Bald Move and see if they do a pod on your show. They are really good. They do movies as well.

One more recommendation and that’s Last Podcast on the Left. They cover everything from cults, cryptids, serial killers, and aliens. It’s really well researched and really funny.

He's all about narrative. Sometimes he does a good job with the facts/data/evidence. Sometimes he doesn't. Even when he doesn't, he's at least looking at it from an interesting perspective, and always does well on the narrative part. Very good story teller/writer.

Mostly listen to Freakanomic because it is interesting (both topics and analysis). Someone else mentioned lack of causal studies, but I don't really subscribe to it as economics gospel, just an interesting take from a behavioral economics perspective done by a host who asks good questions.

Stuff You Should Know - two guys research a random topic and tell you all about it.
The Moth - regular people tell funny/sad/scary stories of things that have happened to them. A little NPR-ish at times, but generally good.
Last Seen - 10 episode show detailing one of the biggest art heists in American History when somebody cleaned out the Gardner Museum in Boston in the 70s.
Crime Town - story of Buddy Cianci, who, along with the mob, served as mayor of Providence, R.I. Thought it would be boring but really liked it.
Agree w/ others about Carlin’s Hardcore History on WW I ... I spend a lot of time in the car for work and it was fascinating even though it’s several hours long.
S-Town was really good.
Also have some miscellaneous ones like Dave Ramsey, sports-related, etc.
