Yesterday’s Game

Gave both sides of the Leach debate evidence to support their opinion. At the end of the day, we are finding ways to lose right now.

Big props to the OL. Before the game everyone talked about how LSU’s front was the best we’ve seen, and they will wear our OL out. We may not see a better pass rushing DL all year, but I thought we won the LOS handily yesterday when we had the ball. We actually made somewhat of a commitment to run the ball more at times, and it was effective. We HAVE to run the ball at teams when they give us 4/5 man boxes.

Rogers played okay but still missed some throws, including what should have been an easy TD to Heath, which then led to a missed FG. I thought our receivers let Rogers down a good bit too with some drops. From my seat it looked like he was still not seeing open guys deep, but I will give him credit for trying to push the ball more.

Big plays killed us again in the second half on specials teams and defense. Offensively we moved the ball well but still only scored 25 points thanks to self-inflicted issues. I think running the ball more against these soft fronts would give us a chance to be more explosive. We need to see more of that going forward.

Again, we are finding ways to lose games right now, and it seems like we find something new to screw up every week. Very frustrating to watch, because at times we look like a very capable team.

All it takes for our offense to stall is one negative play. Tossing safety routes behind the LOS that get stuck before the receiver can even make a move and dumb penalties putting us behind the sticks is what’s killing us right now.

But yeah, our OL was better yesterday. I saw Rogers with time back there on some drives. I don’t see the loss as his fault. He didn’t fumble the ball on the opening drive where we were obviously headed for a TD. That was a 14 point swing right out of the gate. He also didn’t miss a FG or blow coverage on a guy who basically walked in for a TD.
No, plain and simple this loss came down to who made fewer mistakes.

The OL was also the bright spot I saw.

Rogers had plenty of time pretty much every play.

What burned me was when one of our O linemen didn't have anybody in front of him to block on a pass play, so he just hauled *** down the field. Illegally. What can the coaches do to stop stupid stuff like that? Is it curable?

Yep one of those OL downfield early penalties was on the QB holding on too long on a screen pass.

They usually rushed 3 to 4 and we didn't allow but one sack. Good summary. They are better than last year.

On their first TD, No. 0 had a wide open shot on their QB and ran right by him, like he didn't want to tackle him. That was a 3rd down play and they would have had to settle for a FG.
