Crazy what that kid has accomplished in his rookie year… can you imagine being called up your rookie year with two weeks left in the season and end up dominating in the post season and absolutely shutting down a great team in a huge game 6 of the World Series?!? Just craziness!

Oh, and we beat him two years ago in his last season at ECU! :sneaky:

I saw him pitch against us twice, and just looked up the stats for those two games. He was every bit as good as I remembered:

12 IP
7 H
2 ER
2 BB
19 K

He’s fun to watch.
He got a ND against Carolina in 24. 6IP, 12 Ks. 1 ER.
Struck Vandy out all three times. Vance 2 of three. I was surprised they pulled him in that one

It was February, they weren't going to push him much past 100 pitches no matter what.

I do bet there's a game thread on the other site where people were wondering why we couldn't put the ball in play against him. 20 months later I think we have our answer. :ROFLMAO:

Watching him deal in the WS against one of the best lineups in baseball (and most expensive) is a treat. It's nice to know that his 64 degree arm angle mixed up both Vance and Ohtani. Also the fact that he started in Low-A this season and put the Blue Jays one win away from their first title since 1993 is just insane.

ECU has produced Gavin Williams and Trey Yesavage…both of whom look like aces for their staffs going forward. Pretty impressive.

…and this really even isn’t his rookie year. That will be next year. I guess this is his pre- rookie season. What a game (and entire postseason) he’s had!

Very impressive. I liked what Smoltz said about his arm angle being so different to major league hitters. They have trouble picking up his pitches. The ball is released at a much higher level due to his height and coming over the top. Bright future for him, for sure.

Add in Carson Whisenhunt who was drafted in the second round and got a cup of coffee with the Giants at the end of the year.

For a while, TV pretended that Yesavage was a unicorn: A mystery player only up recently from Triple A, getting 11 strikeouts against “the best team that money can buy.”
That treatment for a consensus All American from a strong baseball school is very hard to rationalize.
It was condescending, if not foolishly oblivious.

Just came on in relief and recovered nicely after a leadoff walk. This is seriously impressive stuff
