Yes, it's true about the academics. We're never going to compete with a top private school academically, but we certainly could do a lot better than 211. We should be in the top 50.

However, I seriously doubt Costello is coming to MSU for academics. He's coming to play one season of football, which means he'll have to enroll for 1 semester. Then I expect he'll leave for the NFL, so the level of academics is really moot. He might not even have been at Stanford for academics, but at least he had to do well enough to graduate.

This is like expecting ya to compete for NC in nearly every sport like Stanford.**** Oh yeah, they do in all the non-revenue sports.

But MSU will never ever ever ever be in the Top 50 of Academic institutions. Unless the standards for admission are raised so high that State is no longer “The People’s University”.

I'm just asking for links to any solid rumors. I Googled what a couple of their fan sites were saying when he announced he was transferring and didn't see any mention of it. I did see that they have a LOT of players transferring out this year, I think 13.

Edit: I'm also saying there is no freaking way they refused their starting QB admission to graduate school.

Gotta disagree. I have no idea what the acceptance rate is for Stanford's graduate school, but I'd lay bets on it being very, very stringent. Just because he's the QB on the football team doesn't and shouldn't carry a lot of weight. Plus - they know what kind of student he is, and so do his professors who had to write recommendations for admission. He must not have passed the litmus test. Extracurricular activities carry significant weight for admission (undergrad at least) to top schools, but many times it's just a tie-breaker for already outstanding students. Remember - a university is for academic pursuits first and foremost, not athletics.

Stanford's academic reputation is well documented. I would be curious to know if the football players there all have to meet the same academic entry criteria that a non-athlete does. For example, pretty positive that at Vanderbilt they do not but its a private school.

Stanford is also a private school.

I've "heard", so not sure if it's factual, that Vanderbilt athletes either were sent to or had the option to go to a sister school in Nashville. They had lower entrance standards than Vanderbilt. Tulane was/is the same way. Sort of make sense whether factual or not.

So now we've got 13 football players who were denied entry into grad school? I'm calling double ******** on that. If it's that hard for a football player to get into grad school, they could easily just delay graduation for a semester and play their SR season at Stanford.
