Good end to the half. Sooooo glad we have McCollum as coach.
If you told me the Hawks would have a 16-pt lead at half after the first 12 minutes of the game .... I'd have asked to have you drug tested.

Geeze, even with only 5 players WVU is up on Duke 48-35 with 6 minutes left. Although one of the WVU players has 4 fouls now. That could be a problem.
Bit if a slow start, especially on defense, but they really came on late in the half.
A couple of Xavier's key guys have 2 and 3 fouls. We need to continue to attack those match ups. I could see Xavier going zone in the second half as well.

Nice half for the Hawks! Tavion Banks is looking really good
First game of the year I've really had a chance to see.
My sense is that we're not playing really well but methodically carved up an average team. We'll need to continue to improve but optimistic.

Started off pretty sluggish and sloppy. Also, Xavier seems to mostly be a group of chuckers. Live and die by the 3 so they'll look good when they're hitting shots. Iowa tightened up and made some adjustments, it's nice to see.
Not to dwell on the past but previous Iowa teams would have had that 14 point lead go away with 2 minutes left in the half.

Best thing I can say after the last 1.5 games is .... Hawks haven't looked in peak form for quite a bit of that time span, but are still well on the way to 2-0 in those games.
Yes, a lot of that has to do with the inferior competition, but I remember the previous coach dropping a few of the games like the last one and the one currently going on.

If WVU can somehow hold on, that will be a real anchor on Duke's tourney resume in March.
That 88-63 prediction I made on the first page is looking pretty sporty right about now, if the Hawks don't start the 2nd half in as big a lull as they did to start the game.
Looks like a guy that wants to take it to the rim as often as possible. Ton of confidence in him which is great to see.

I LOVE that McCollum will call a timeout after a made basket to make sure we're set up and focused defensively.
