Things are much quieter when we win for some reason

You guys played well and definitely deserved to win, and we deserved to lose.

Still think you get away with way too much hand checking and not a fan of that style of ball. It is ugly to watch, foul fest.

We need a true point guard and have for awhile.

Good Luck going forward.

Iowa’s strategy under 5 minutes was just to foul (which was the right strategy). We’re a physical, defensive team. I love it.

We need a point guard too, dating back to ~2005. Finally getting one next year.

I have no problem with physical defensive play, never been a fan of hand checking is all. Gives defensive player an advantage which should be called in my opinion.

Not saying that is all you do, just saying that part I don't care for. You play much better defense than we do even without the hand checking.

Iowa fans are definitely not happy about what Fran has brought on the defensive end of the court.

Thanks, Shafthawk. Just checked the Iowa board, and several posters expressed similar sentiments. They were realistic about Iowa's defensive problems. There were a few, however, that said how could you lose to a bottom feeder on Senior Day.? Somewhere along the line they failed to notice RU had racked up several wins in the B1G this season, and was striving for a bye on the first day of the B1G tournament. Reality whacked them in the face in front of a big home crowd. So it goes.

I can see how you would think the refs weren’t fair to you when you literally shoot more free throws than any team in the entire country. Tonight you were in the double bonus with 11 minutes left in the game, think about that for a second. You had the officials in your back pocket, and you still lost by 14 on senior night. So miss me with the fouls/refs comment. Boo hoo, and btw I hate YOUR style of play - just launch 3s and when they hit win and when they don’t get blown out. Maybe YOUR TEAM needs to learn how to play defense corn boy. Soft

Before you went to the hack a Shaq strategy the foul discrepancy was 10 Iowa to 24 Rutgers. I don't think we got away with too many of those hand checks you described. O and Bohannon pushes off a lot but never seems to get called for it.

We have not had great basketball teams since Lute Olson years, and then when Tom Davis inherited George Raveling's players.

I laughed when the announcers talked about how incredible the atmosphere inside Carver can get. The old Iowa Fieldhouse would get way louder. The atmosphere at Carver has been a constant complaint of Iowa fans.

Anyway, good luck going forward.

Hand checking is no good but Bohannon pushing with his off arm all game is ok & never gets called. The refs gave you every chance to win but the better team won anyway!

Here's a reco. Grow less corn and more balls. We got plenty of both here in Jersey.

Visitor from Iowa here. Congratulations on a great game. The Scarlet Knight played well and kicked some Hawkeye ***. Your team has a bright future as it looks like you can be competitive in the Big 10 and enjoy some success in the future. I really like your coach and the trajectory of the Scarlet Knight. Hopefully, we shall meet again.

You guys got a lot of friendly whistles. Your team needs to find some toughness.

Good luck going forward.

Bohanon and that flapped armed elbow! It’s all over the place. Wait til the refs start calling that ****.

Bohannon has his chicken wing out every time he drives. Even bardo was going crazy about it. I counted one time down the court he did it to 3 different guys without ever being called for an offensive foul. I am just glad that RU won big today. We are really improving and Pikiell is the man.

I’m not a fan of Bohannons game. He’s that kid that can shoot but is soft and whiny on D, and definitely has a hypocritical streak. He pushes off to overcome the athleticism of defenders, he flops when attempting to draw offensive fouls, he gives up on a lot of plays, and he can be dirty.

Someone posted a photo of the entire Iowa team surrounding Fernando on his game winning shot (Maryland vs Iowa last week). Bohannan is clearly pushing Fernando in the back with 2 hands but no call!

You think we play physical defense? You should watch the Old Big East. We’re not even close to physical

We beat these guys twice this year if it weren’t for a prayer being answered, and I’m pretty sure we waxed them last season too...

Maybe instead of whining about only getting enough whistles to shoot twice as many free throws as RU, you man up and play harder/tougher and overcome the obstacles in front of you.

You just got beat. Understand and accept

I don’t understand “hand checking” when we are called for so many fouls?? We are very good defensively and these are freshman stealing the ball. I go back to the days of BJ Armstrong and Roy Marble when we lost to you in the first round of the NCAA tourney. Tom Davis was a great coach.

I think Iowa is missing an inside game. You have some great shooters but we stepped up our defense today; especially Mathis. You guys will be in the tournament this year but at this point of the season, we are as good if not better. Pikiell has us playing toe to toe with almost everyone in the league except for Purdue.

A lot of young players on RU that have been caught hand checking this year but tonight that wasn’t Iowa’s issue. Rutgers just made shots and Iowa couldn’t match them. Good win for RU.

I hope Bohannon can get some ice on that elbow.
It must be sore sticking it into Rutgers players all night.

9-9 Iowa
8-10 Rutgers

The above conference records as of today if (definitely a small 'if' and not a big one) not for an impossible and miraculous prayer glancing off the side of the backboard, the difference between Rutgers and the NCAA-bound Iowa after 18 games in conference would be a single game.

Oh, and Jersey corn is better...

That's a fair comment. Iowa is a fine team and deserves to be in the NCAAs. Your poor defensive play caught up with you today but you will be fine come tournament time. To me a key player to stop is Joe Weiskamp. I really like his game but we've been able to contain him with the exception of the final 3.1 seconds of the first game. Tyler Cook has also not been as effective as he needs to be if Iowa is going to advance in the Tournament and NCAAs. When he gets going underneath combined with your outside game then Iowa is very tough to beat. Garza also needs to step it up especially in the paint underneath. For someone his size he does not rebound enough.

Good post. Cook needs to play more physical, and has needed to his entire career. That is what would keep him from his NBA dream. Become more physical, better rebounder, and a mid range jumper.

His game is way too limited currently.
