WESTMINSTER CHOIR COLLEGE: (Singing) And besides I'll instruct you, like me, to intwine the Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus' Vine.
CORNISH: Francis Scott Key got rid of those naughty bits about intwining and the myrtle of Venus and wrote his own words - oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Love NOLA, the culture, the food, the jazz and the SAINTS but you don’t disrespect the National Anthem. PERIOD!!
It’s based on an Irish drinking song. Let’s not get all high and mighty.
You do know that the theme of the Star Spangled Banner is taken from "To Anacreon in Heaven" which is a 1700s song about drinking and sex?
More the "melody" as opposed to the 'theme'... but your point is well taken.
How is that disrespecting the anthem? Certainly different and I can’t say I really enjoyed it all that much but I don’t think they disrespected the anthem.

From NPR:
Home of the brave. I personally find it pretty brave to knowingly take on an onslaught of never ending hate just because you want a world with less violence in it.
Just a question but has the NPR ever put out a story with a positive spin to it about American patriotism or traditions? Asking for a friend.
That didn't bother me as much as, "Stand if you want to." Just say, "You can stand."
I know I'll probably catch crap for that but I really don't care for it but that's me I'm a kind of a patriotic person.
Did you read or listen to the article? It isnt a negative spin- its simply telling the history of the song. There is nothing negative about the story.
By taking this position, you imply those who do not stand are unpatriotic. That is laughable.
Whether or not someone stands has no bearing on their patriotism.
FTR- I stand.
My question wasn't about that story. Where did I say it was?
\You did not explicitly say it was.
Are you really claiming your question had nothing to do with the linked article you replied to?

No I was only talking about my patriotism not yours or anybody else's there you go again making comments for me that I never made. I never said it wasn't patriotic.
I should've known you would show up I'm out of here.
