So, Northam's wife is giving a tour of the mansion including slave cottages from the despicable past of Virginia during an educational field trip to students and to make the tour interactive, part of the tour is presenting cotton in a bowl that is representative of what the slaves were working in the fields during the days of these cottages. And that is an abomination? Have any of you ever toured any of the historical sites in the south from the civil war era? This is not unusual and it is giving perspective of the times. It isn't like she is handing out cotton to black kids and candy to white kids during Halloween.

I don't pay attention to "people that got the ball rolling". I read news and I see Washington Post first reported that a mother of a student on the trip told a journalist what Mrs. Northam did. I don't find this to be shocking, racist or even offensive in the manner that is was giving a historical tour of slave cottages that probably has been done many times. So yes, I consider those wanting to make this into some kind of abomination to be knee jerking a stupid perspective. Why you couldn't understand this in my first post also shows a little bit of your own lack of mental capacity.

Admits to not reading the article and comments on it...questions someone who actually read the article that stated that this was a tour for democratic pages and their kids and the kids refused to hold the cotton because they they felt it was just inappropriate. The first lady of Va stated that she has done the same with other groups but used other props, but the fact that she was entertaining 3 black families and decided to use cotton as a prop a couple of weeks after her husband as been accused of black face makes this worthy news.
If the blackface never happened, or they were white kids, none of this wold have made the news.
