Can someone explain to me what exploring firing a coach is? This is the most ridiculous explanation I've ever heard. either he's done or not you don't explore firing somebody and then look into it for 24 to 48 hours, yeah we are Mississippi State. To me it looks like a reflection of an AD who's in over his head as well. I guess you could be looking into it from a legal standpoint trying to get out of his buyout to fire him for cause, but how does that get leaked to reporters to be put out that way? So if you are considering firing him that means he's gone. If this leaks nationally and then we keep him, it would be a complete embarrassment for the university and just show the absolute impotence of our administration or AD or whoever is the cause of this!

Seriously? I doubt any official from the athletic department used the term “exploring.”

Sounds more like someone smelled smoke (and I believe there was and is) and a reporter starts asking questions... gets a “no comment” to a firing or extension question, which would lead to a tweet indicating that we are “exploring” firing him.

I am just as ready for a change at HC as the next guy, but we don’t have to shoot at everyone inside the circle because of a tweet that uses a word that most likely was not uttered

People lose their minds based on opinions on the internet.

And yes, writers write opinions and reporters report opinions.

Agree with all of the above it just seems amateur as hell that it leaked and was presented that way, at this point, there is no way they keep him, can you imagine Joe in 2020 as a lame duck coach! Ouch!

The reporter got exactly the reaction he was looking for.

its on the front page of CBSSports.com that we are exploring the firing of Moorhead. if thats out, i say he's gone. if not, he'll always be looking for another job. we suck at everything.

You are reading too much into this. First of all, we dont know if this was a "leak" as you say, or just someone spreading a baseless rumor. Second, who knows where the word "exploring" came from, but before Cohen can fire Moorhead he does need the financial support to both buy out Moorhead and secure a new coach.

Finally, if this is all just a rumor or an exaggeration of the situation, then, no, they dont have to go ahead and fire Moorhead. You dont make a move like that based on outside noise.

May not be anything to it but there is too much smoke to be just some kid lighting his farts.

cant walk that back now. we are getting a new coach. you cant just leak "we are exploring firing our coach" then pull the carpet out from the fans, media, alums, connected people and not follow through. there is no option but firing now.

What’s amateur is you.
**** like this happens on every job hiring or firing in major sports. Every time.

The fact his is reporting something means something is being discussed or going down.

No ****, but I’m 100% sure John Cohen didn’t tell Pete “we are talking it over and will get back to you”.

You have no idea if it was “leaked”. It could have come from “sources”.

But yes I think Moorhead is gone and was gone before that quote.
