Yeah, Kane had the title for 24 hrs. First Blood Match against Austin. Loved how they'd stack the deck against Austin. A bald guy in a First Blood Match against someone whose face is covered by a mask with a long wig attached was genius heel booking.

There's a part of the IWC who may want something like Sami vs KO for the title and while that'd be a great match, it probably wouldn't sell the amount of tickets TKO wants for a big PLE like Summerslam, so enter Cody once again. Punk and Cody is money but it doesn't need a title. I'd rather them have a long feud and the winner of their final match gets Sami, maybe at Survivor Series.

For Sami, he's likely known the plot for weeks and none of these guys take holding the title for a day or a week personally. It's why he's having a blast on the socials everyday with the belt. But man, neither Punk or Cody need to be champion right now.

If Punk vs. Cody can't sell tickets unless a title is attached to it then WWE has bigger problems to deal with. Big matchups like that should sell tickets on their own.

WWE apparently told him to take a payout on his contract renewal, which is 100% reasonable given how they are using him though, and he rejected it and will be available in less than 90 days.

I like Sheamus matches when he's given a chance to have a good match. He's 48 though. AEW doesn't need him. A handful of appearances to set something up for All In if he is available for that? OK I can get behind that. But a full-time roster member? Pass.

Sucks about Sheamus but he's older and has been injured quite a bit in recent years. Truth was brought back because his friends urged it to happen and fans picked up on it. End of the day, wrestling isn't one of those businesses were you just keep a bunch of active vets around with massive deals in place when there's not much left for them. There was a time when fans wanted Sheamus to win the IC belt but that was over a year ago and fans have moved on. We want someone like Gable to get the title now. And as these vets walk away or go elsewhere because WWE wants to pay them less, I'm seeing less of a performative "seething" about it online by fans. It's like they're finally understanding this is business and there's a massive talent cycle every decade or so.

None of the vets leaving have been part of anything major in ages other than New Day when they turned on Big E. So why would they? Not like they are telling Drew McIntyre or Becky Lynch to take a payout or hit the bricks, that we know of at least.

I like that the titles change hands now like the Attitude Era. The 3 year Roman title run was ridiculous. They were putting that counter (and Gunther's and others) on the screen. Nobody wants to see that.

When affordability of life becomes a problem, entertainment stuff like events are typically going to get scaled back or eliminated entirely from people’s budgets.

When someone is struggling to put food on the table, make rent, pay off loans, pay bills, etc. it becomes quite hard to justify shelling out money for a wrestling show.

And as often as AEW and WWE have shows, it becomes pretty easy to say “I can’t afford it now, maybe next time they are here things will be better” for anything but the top tier stuff domestically because chances are they will be back at least once within the next year or two.

We will always have the video of Sami pushing the belt in the swing.

Wonder if LA Knight can get a quick turn before everything is said and done?

Sami Zayn joins Kane (1998), Christian (world heavyweight champion 2011), Mick Foley (SummerSlam 1999) and The Miz (2021), among others, as world champions who didn’t even keep the belt 2 weeks.

How bad was Seth Rollins’ promo last night? They were making fun of it on busted open radio today. Within 30 seconds the crowd was already chanting for Punk and in a couple more, they were chanting for Roman. Sounded terrible when they played it back.
