Season ticket holder here but do not follow recruiting like I should. Saw this article about the best wrestlers in the state and was disappointed to see RU only has one commit as of right now from this list. I understand wrestling only has a certain amount openings but if we cannot get the best of NJ wrestlers even though being a highly ranked team are we like football and the kids just want to be somewhere else?

The key to Rutgers is not NJ recruiting. Rutgers needs to get kids that compete nationally while in high school and stay here once they get here. Many kids have big names in NJ without much national experience. The kid from California and the kid from Blair can be considered national recruits. Unfortunately, Robinson is not having the year that was expected. If we only get NJ recruits, it is unlikely that we can become more than a top 10 to top 15 program.

KidDagger - If you remove the Jersey kids who wrestle national competition in high school, you will see that there aren't that many Jersey kids who have been high ranked All Americans. Getting only Jersey kids will not move us up the rankings. In the Goodale era the only four top nationally ranked kids we got have been Winston, Mason, Ashnault, and Suriano. Mason and Suriano were both transfers. The success of Perrotti and Theobold can be attributed to their hard and great coaching.

Last year the three Jersey kids that finished in the Top Four (Martin, McKenna, Kolodzik) all wrestled a national schedule in high school. If you check out all top four finishers, you will see that most wrestled a national schedule in high school.

The more national experience the better.. I only meant we can't let the elite nj wrestler get away.. aka McFadden ; Mekhi Lewis.. bc history has shown nj has NCAA champ material aka .. kellen russel, molinaro, Caldwell , mocco, Rey, etc...
When I said the national kids will come once they see success I only meant the blue chips out of state from pa, oh, etc ..

Yes and hopefully his stock continues to rise.. our biggest out of state recruit was former #1 in his weight class and top 20 p4p Josh dziewa but he jumped ship to Iowa.

I thought he had the inside track to start next year at 133 once Scotty D graduates no?

No one wants to be a bench warmer, so kids will leave no matter what.

Bryce Meredith is a perfect example, once he knew the starting spot was Kevin Jack he left for Wyoming. Now he is NO 1 at the weight and a two time All American with the possibility of been the NCAA champ in March.

This is why we can still get quality recruits. Depending on the situation, some times blue chip recruits have to wait on the bench for a spot to open up at top programs. We're in a perfect spot to get the type of kids who wouldnt start at a top 10 program as a freshman, but would start for us.

What? I think Penn State fans assumed Suriano would be 125, Teasdale 133 and RBY 141. Hence, no problem having all 3.

I could imagine Mackall was a bit discouraged that after planning his college career to redshirt his freshman year and then go 125 the next 4, Suriano was brought in.

Rumors have him transferring to Iowa State and wants to be a 125 pounder. And we have 2 walk ons currently left on roster and Vega quit the team.

With whatever is going on with Janzer, Leighner of Del Val out hurt all year, Robinson of Blair having a not good season so far, and Glasgow status still unresolved, this year's recruiting a bit shaky.
