I was in attendance the night we lost to VMI
Billy G makes me want to vomit. What a time.

Strange times back then. Myself included. I didn't know if I should scratch my watch or wind my butt. SOOO grateful to Calipari for undoing the wrong that had been done to UK basketball.
A lot of people still defended Billy G after Gardner Webb and VMI. The wheels didnt really come off until the University of Jody Meeks halftime interview.
Has happened six times:
14-MAR-1970 Jacksonville 100-106
23-DEC-1989 SW Louisiana 113-116 OT
27-DEC-1989 North Carolina 110-121
21-FEB-1990 Tennessee 100-102
28-MAR-1992 Duke 103-104 OT
14-NOV-2008 VMI 103-111
so the VMI game was the second most points we ever scored in a non overtime game and lost. Pretty crazy that it happened 3 times to the 89-90 teamHas happened six times:

yeah the Duke game is pretty obvious. Guess I didn't think about that last night when I posted because that didn't really have the feel of a game in which we scored a bunch but played crap defense. It was more like an Ali-Frazier slugfest. In fact despite the ending that's still one of my favorite UK games to go back and watch because of how awesome that team was. Luckily I didn't have to endure many of the probation years games because I was already living in Florida and we were never on TVBesides VMI, I immediately knew the SW Louisiana, UNC* (went to both) and Duke.
Crazy things that stays in your mind as a Kentucky fan
Describes me perfectly. It's sad how worried I was about losing those recruits. There was a sizeable portion of the fanbase that hung on to the very end. I think they were worried that we would lose out on Jon Hood, Daniel Orton, and Dominique Ferguson. I suppose there was some real concern that we might miss out on some of our top coaching targets. Looking back its easy to see that it was the right move.
I will admit that BCG was my top choice after we whiffed on Billy Donovan. I mean the guy slept in his office, drank Dr. Pepper and ate live bullets, he was married to basketball.... and all of that nonsense. I am just glad that he failed so fantastically that we were able to get rid of him in year 2.

only took exactly a decade but finally we will have revenge of that loss

There's really nothing to avenge, unless we did something to Gillispie. There probably aren't 100 VMI fans (as we understand the term), and that team/coaching staff are long since gone.Nothing, and I mean nothing will avenge that loss. We could beat them literally 1000 times in a row, and that loss will not be avenged. Let them have their moment.
Which goes to show that nobody would care about the embarrassing BG losses if he had gone on to multiple final fours and win a title89-90 was a special situation as Pitino was trying to push the pace but without a lot of talent. So when they got beat they could get beat badly. See the Kansas game in Lawrence.
Usually teams with inferior talent try to slow down the pace to reduce the number of possessions. But Rick was trying to change the style of play and I think overall it paid dividends down the road.
Same. I still remember there were people on this board who were like, "But they are Kentucky kids..." and wanted to give Gillispie another year.I never fell for it when I seen those guys I was like OMG we won’t win ten games.
How quickly we forget KC Ross-Miller. His dad set up a fake school and HS team and kept stats for him and he would average 50 pts, 37 rebs, and 64 assists per game. A true legend.I'm sure Dakota Euton, Vinny Zollo, and GJ Vilarino all approve of this message.

If anyone is interested in the non-conference games I've got 2 lower level season tickets to all the home games. Obviously KU and Utah are off the table. Also will be selling some SEC games, will post those when the Conference schedule comes out.
How many colleges did he play for? 3 or 4? I know Tennessee, New Mexico St., and Auburn. Not sure if there was another one in there somewhere. How quickly we forget KC Ross-Miller.
