Yeah I'm not going to believe Barchi said those words at all. The man may not be the most athletics friendly, but he's not dumb. I had the chance to speak to him a few weeks ago at an event. But by all means continue to pile on and take things with 0 context or collaboration as ultimate truth.

Whoever is good at Twitter/emails, make sure every legislator in Trenton, both parties, gets that statement from him. Thank you !

Remember, there are plenty of people on this board who defend Barchi as a great school President (it's more than football, blah, blah, blah).

Guy has always been a piece of garbage. An academic snob with no business running a B1G school.

I swear it's true, it's on the internet!

Barchi, as has been the directive, doesn't want the department/football losing money. He wants it self sustaining, like at other schools. If it makes money, wonderful.

This much we know to be fact.

He could have meant that cost was not a factor in the pursuit of a Rose Bowl. He is willingly to spend any amount required to bring us a winner. "I DON'T CARE IF FOOTBALL MAKES MONEY." You would have had to been there to understand the context in which he made that statement.

Yeah we know it's not that.

Sorry just because he has a brilliant medical mind or knows how to fix a clock doesn’t mean he can’t be dumb in other aspects.

The fact that he didn’t watch the Rice tape or commented recently on his tenure review that he didn’t realize college football was such a big deal at Rutgers coming in tells you all you need to know about his incompetence and complete disregard for an area (Athletics) that he should be at least in tune with as a President of a BIG10 university.

Cali, I agree that more context is required here. My main thought was what if Barchi said it in the context of what Barchi has preached all along, as you note above. However, if he doesn't want the department/football losing money, he might want to start paying attention to the fan base which is starting, or at least threatening, to drain more out of the department.

I didn't speak to him at a medical event. It was much more casual and relaxed than that so we were free to discuss a variety of things. I was just simply saying that I wouldn't expect him to say something so inflammatory right now as he has shown time and again he is adept at protecting himself from controversy by using other people. Also in the past he's stated that as long as Athletics becomes self sustaining he doesn't care if it makes money - which is probably the context we're missing on this.

I just want to win - LOL. Because the past X decades capped by this sham of a process has led us to believe RU is about winning.

Wait, isn't this what you've been begging him to do? Isn't that what the "invest" buzz word means in this context.

Barchi could say he loves football and the Gregettes would have a conniption. It's reached peak hysteria.

Didn't you say you were an Iowa fan now and not following anymore?

I am, my Hawkeye hat will be here tomorrow. I've already been invited to Lady Hawk Football Camp and I've scoped out the bar in NYC to watch them in the bowl game.
however, see my signature below...when Rutgers gets its **** together I'll be back (yellow is definitely not my color)

Let's face it. Nothing changes in Barchi's lame duck year. We need to get a solid coach now and hope the new president is more into sports. It's been clear for a while he doesn't care.

I also don't think he fires Hobbs, because he won't want to be bothered finding a replacement.

Pressure on Hobbs and Barchi don't matter on this point. Only the board can change things.
