How can you not be impressed by the man after reading that article.
No wonder parents entrust their sons young adult years to be influenced by such an upstanding honest individual.
Kyle Flood, Im sure all you have touched are better people for it.

This article is the Kyle Flood I have had the good fortune to interact with. Anyone trying to say he somehow was not doing the right thing, to the best of his ability, for his players and the university are completely misguided in my opinion.

Unless you have been a coach at any level in an area that has folks living in less than ideal conditions you don't even have the slightest clue about some of the issues and situations he has to deal with. You can do everything in your power to try to guide and educate the young people put in your charge about life and still be unsuccessful getting through to them. There are conditions and influences they face that would make most average folks' jaw drop. To those affected it's the only "normal" they know. Watching the ivory tower folks being shocked and appalled makes me laugh. Those calling for his firing because of these players are even worse.

Having been a player and coach in this situation, I have seen some really good kids/guys go really bad despite my and many others' best efforts. It is a sad reality, but you can not save everyone from their circumstances or themselves. All you can do is keep trying.

Just stay true to yourself Kyle and keep chopping.

I am in no way, shape or form excusing the actions of the players involved. I think they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and dismissed from the program. I AM saying unless you have walked a mile in Coach Flood's shoes you can not judge him. There won't be many ESPN headlines or an expose' on his success stories. Those don't get eyeballs and make $ like the scandalous. The linked article is the exception not the rule. I can't speak for Kyle, he will do a better job on his own, but I will continue to help folks because everybody deserves a chance. There are no news stories or pats on the back, but that is not what I and many like me are in it for.

There are many forces out there working against Coach Flood. His CHARACTER is not one of them. RU would be making a big mistake letting him go. RU has a knack for making huge mistakes though. We shall see.

IMO Great post! I have been a teacher and a coach. I am now retired. During my career I felt exactly the same way you do. I made every effort to help every one of those young people, and I have no regrets. With all the cynicism, it is so refreshing to read a post like yours. You made my day.

Great article. Too bad it's been buried. Hope Flood comes out of this just fine.

Please read this article regarding the underlying problem in football by Carino. Really puts it in perspective

http://www.app.com/story/sports/col...e-flood-ruhann-peele-nadir-barnwell/71680600/

Sorry, but someone with the handle @njhoopshaven saying that college football is the problem at Rutgers or any other D1 school is rich indeed. There are approximately 10 times the number of football players per team than basketball players. If the ratio was equal we would have entire state penitentiaries populated with incarcerated hoops guys. With only a handful of players to look after and nearly the same number of coaches on a D1 B Ball team it is far easier to keep a thumb on your guys.

Good point regarding which coach, Schiano or Flood, recruited the players involved. Although neither coach is responsible, the fact that some were recruited by Flood and some by Schiano just shows the coach can't predict the type of decisions made by the players. Also, didn't Barnwell and Peele join the program in the same class? The article says Schiano recruited Peele and Flood recruited Barnwell

Behind coach Flood all the way. Can't remember but were Nelson and Daily suspended first or kicked off immediately?

I love coach Flood and everything he stands for.
Assuming he SOMEHOW knew nothing about the Boggs, Johnson investigation....which I find weird. We all know he was aware of the fight because he reported it, yet he wasn't sure who was involved? How do you not do everything in your power and not use every source possible to find out?
IMO his own internal investigation would have revealed Barnwell and Peele as participants, and neither should have been being prepared to play against Norfolk St.
Do I think he should be fired, no, but he should learn a lesson to be more proactive.
