If you were a Kentucky booster, would you rather take $15 million and go get Momcilovic AND Stokes OR take the same $15 million and buy Mark Pope out right now?

This is not an anti-Pope thread, just seeing which scenario fans would want more, and if any still want Pope IF he had a good roster.

I would take the $15 million and buy out Pope and go get Donovan. Donovan is not the perfect choice, but light years better than Pope. We just can't get the absolute homeruns of Hurley, Lloyd, or May.

The only way you take option 1 is if you believe Pope can win a championship with that team next year. If not, then he likely at least makes the tourney and has 20 wins, so he gets yet another year of mediocrity.

Only way you buy Pope out now is if you have an agreement in place with the next coach already, and they better be a big time hire. Firing him now means Barnhart and his cronies get another crack at hiring. Trim Pope's NIL budget of for this year, fire him mid season, get an early start on the coaching search with a new AD, who also is hopefully an outside hire.

Funny thing- I think we are gonna find out the answer to this.

I maintain I think the best scenario is Pope rallies and changes the narrative.

Give me the players.

My positivity is def taking on water since PF debacle tho.

I completely understand the hoping it works out because that means UK is successful next year, but do you really want to go through another year of HS recruiting like this? In 2 years Pope has pulled the following from HS: BYU commit that followed him, 2 local products, a staffers son, and the Hawthornes. That is embarrassing at almost any P5 school, better yet a "blueblood".

I buy Stokes and Milan and spend the year back-channeling Pope's replacement ONCE THE NEW AD IS IN PLACE. And unless Pope hangs a banner, fire him once you have the replacement coach in place and warmed up in the bullpen. Otherwise we fire Pope now, use the money to buy him out, and have a horrendous season under a stop gap coach who is probably even worse than Pope because we aren't getting Otz, Oats, Pearl, Hurley, Donovan, May, or Lloyd. Especially not this deep into the postseason and most of the elite players off the board already. We'd probably even lose half the commitments we already have and look like Transy's basketball team next year.

I think if you actually get Momcilovic and Stokes those other misses are irrelevant and perhaps even a good thing.

As to the OP's question I say get Momcilovic and Stokes.

No, I certainly don’t.

My biggest fear is deserved or fabricated- the story becomes that BBN even runs their own former champions out of town- and the coaching search is a complete debacle.

I realize we are facing a real debacle now.

Tough situation, just rooting for the best outcome and taking a guess at how we get there. Pope redemption would be awesome. That may not be how it goes, I accept that.
