Since we’re in the doldrums period of summer, I thought of a hypothetical that’s kinda fun, IMO. As a Mississippi State fan, would you rather:

A) Win the National Championship in football this year

OR

B) Continue the current baseball success, winning the next 2 titles for a three-peat. An added bonus is that the men’s basketball team makes a Final Four within this time frame also.

I think I’m picking B.

Football championship and it ain't close. It would mean so much more monetarily and visibly for the university. And this is coming from a big baseball fan.

That said...

Dang. I was trying to make it a good hypothetical. What if, instead of a Final Four, we make it a basketball championship too? Change your opinion or nah?

Opinions vary, but for me personally? Nah. I'd take ten straight losing seasons in basketball and baseball right now if it meant a natty in football.

A.

Baseball can do great things by itself. Even after a Final Four run, the MBB program is never going to be a powerhouse.

I’ll take some help in football though. Honestly, I would take ‘A’ if it was simply a Playoff birth. Much less an actual title.

This is a silly hypothetical to me. Let's face it. A NC in football just is not going to happen for MSU or any other school in this state. MSU has won one, and will win more in baseball though.

I get that football pays for everything, but if you're asking me personally what I prefer, I'll take two titles over one. I take pride in our baseball program, and regardless of the athletic department bottom line, I will always enjoy baseball over football.

Will not participate. Everybody knows the answer to this stupid question. Only a true concern troll-level hater would come here and find a way to make self-loathing MSU fans feel like their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP isn't good enough.

You can kindly see your way outta here.

Weird flex bro. If you have ever read my posts on this site you would know I’m not a troll. I legitimately root for Mississippi State in everything, excepting the rare times they’re playing USM. I was introduced to State athletics by my grandfather, who held a degree from Mississippi A&M. State’s national championship was bad ***.

I have a 23 year old employee who occasionally tells me “you’re projecting.” Most annoying **** in the world.

3 straight CWS Championships while awesome, I have to go with A.
So much more visibility for the University and Athletics Dept overall with a football Natty.

I'd say it's a pretty decent hypothetical as is. The real flaw is that while we're not going to three peat in baseball, we're going to continue to be good, so being good in baseball while getting a natty in football makes A a no brainer.

Make it championship in basketball and two more in baseball, and it's pretty close. Do you want to be really good in baseball and have a natty in football, or three peat in baseball and win a natty in basketball?

I'd probably rather have 3 NCs in baseball and one in basketball than 1 in baseball and 1 in football, but as far as what would be best for the school, it'd probably be the football NC .

The Kansas Jayhawks are one of the most storied men's basketball programs in history.

They have:
3 NCAA championships
6 runner-ups
15 Final Fours
more Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen appearances and Conference Titles than I care to count
the second most wins and the most .500 or better seasons in NCAA History

And nobody gave a damn when the Big 12 almost broke up ten years ago because they didn't have a nationally relevant football program. They were a last minute Fox deal away from being a Group of 5 member.

The answer is A and it's not even close.

To me, nothing compares to winning it all in football but damn that sure was fun winning the first one in baseball. I know we will love baseball as much as anyone but I can see only a football title bringing that craziness again. It's just that hard to win a football title and we know it.

A Final Four in basketball is not meaningless but anything short of a title just won't move the needle. We been to the final four before, so you gotta come with winning multiple baseball and at least a basketball title or two over the next few years to make me even think about it. Football is just that much bigger to me.

Ha, so DCD deletes his post calling me a dick, then you replace it. Nice coordination.

I'll say that you both are well qualified to spot when somebody is being a dick, so I probably was.

I posted a four word sentence and dick was none of those words. You really need to chill. Get your boyfriend to take you to a movie or something.

Football, but I've always suspected that if State won a national championship that there would be a feeding frenzy amongst the national media to dig up some dirt. Because in their minds, there's no way anyone outside the chosen few could win one without cheating.

I'd still take it. 17em

If you asked me 6 months ago - I would have said A. But having experienced it in baseball this year, man that was fun. Now I'd take 2 more years of that plus the final four.

Now what would be better for the school? Sure, a natty in football. But for my personal enjoyment I'm going B.

And just think - 3 straight championships, 6 straight trips to Omaha. Reached 4 of the last 10 CWS finals. That's a legit dynasty.

I think you’re severely underestimating the enjoyment of a football national championship. It’s the greatest achievement in college athletics.

As much as I'd love to win another 2 baseball titles and another Final 4 in basketball, a national title in football would change Mississippi State sports forever. So, A every time.

It's got to be A. As cool as it was to finally get one in baseball, football would be that on steroids'.

Let fix it for you.

What is least likely to happen?

1 - Win National Championship in football

2 Everything else on earth.

#1 is the correct answer.

It doesn’t exactly take coordination for two posters to call you a dick since the pool of likely candidates is roughly 90% of this board.
