I’ve had good luck with Sam’s steaks (ribeyes) and brisket. I think it’s better than Hy-Vee. We have a local butcher we’ve been going to lately but I don’t think there is anything wrong with Sams. Where do you prefer?

There is an inspection level every place that sells meat must meet. If I want to get a good hamburger, I must buy it at PriceSmart in the Dominican Republic. Most of the beef raised in the DR is for dairy production and it is 100% grass-fed. If there is beef sold for human consumption, it is 100% grass-fed with no sweetening with corn prior to selling. There is a huge flavor difference and the beef is from the States that is used from PriceSmart. I chuckle at the videos denouncing the box retailers and their selling of meat...

Hell to the no. What do you think goes on in those secret WalMart-JadeHelm 15 detention warehouses / meat processing facilities anyway?

I live in KC and Walmart/Sam’s is getting ready to open a meat distribution plant in Olathe. All of the meat going through the Olathe distribution center which will go out to much of the Midwest is Nebraska raised certified beef. So honestly I think it’s going to be solid quality.

Would I eat it? Sure.

But if your wife wants to start buying meat from a club warehouse, Costco would be a better way to go.

Don’t shop at any of those big box stores, but will admit that THE BEST cut of beef I’ve ever consumed was a capsteak from Costco. And I’ve eaten a LOT of red meat.

It’ll depend on their source. Do these places use local sources for their produce and meats? Honest question. Have no clue.

Agree.

Fun fact: At Costco, the meat with a blue styrafoam tray is a better cut than the meat in a white tray.

yes, I live in the DR where I go down to the street corner and buy pork that is hanging from a hook that was killed 2 hours earlier. I buy chickens that were clucking in the morning and are on a table under a plastic bag at noon.

I have a friend who trades and feeds thousands of cattle and he’ll buy steaks from Costco.

I would give it a try - it won’t kill you … but if it does can your wife continue the OT: Ext thread in your memory?🤣

Definitely not Walmart and sams club has the worst meat you can buy
Every two weeks I buy six centercut pork chops from Sams and like them for quality and price, and they are an inch thick. Hy Vee charges a fortune for the thick chops. I'm not a big beefeater, but once a month or so I buy an eye of round roast from them and rotisserie it on my grill. No complaints there either, seems like a good cut of meat for a great price.

Are there any off the beaten path meat places in the Omaha area? I usually go to Just Good Meat on 84th

I’ should clarify the meat isn’t bad but it has no flavor, the hamburger and steaks the worst just flat.

I mean you can track down where it comes from for the most part, as long as it’s part of the USDA choice, select, prime system. Not perfect, but good enough for me in a pinch.

If they are anything like Costco they will also have the premium lines from grass fed, ethical stuff.

You can also buy 80% of you red meat, chicken and pork from Wild Pastures, and get some of the the best meat around at Costco USDA choice prices. Support regenerative farming, all grass fed, etc. $240 for 27 lbs mixed box and it lasts us 2 months, just do initial sign up for 2 extra lbs ground meat when you first sign up, get the 20% discount. Their breakfast pork sausage is fire, and the red meat doesn’t have the “100% grass fed” taste that a butcher box does.

Unless the Whole Foods in Omaha is different than other places, Whole Foods has best meat you’ll find anywhere. When they have certain cuts on sale, just load up for the freezer. I ate damn well off this strategy in CA, and for good prices.

90th and Center, Fareway Meats. Really, really good meat choices and sometimes they have sales that are worth a stockup.

Also, there's a locker in Wahoo (sorry, can't remember the name) that does a good job seasoning their meat (steak, sausage, etc).

I'm a little surprised you aren't vegan.
Meat and potatoes much to my waistlines dismay. Used to love Farmer Browns prime rib until the management change but still have Drover to visit occasionally.

I've completely given up on Farmer Brown's.

Ribs, Brisket, Pork Butt, Chicken, etc... absolutely. I know several competition bbq guys that prefer Sam's and Costco meat. Hamburger and cut steaks... not usually. The hamburger can sometimes be bland and the cut steaks are hit/miss. What is your beef with meat from Sam's? Do you think it will give you covid or the squirts?

A while back, I got some ground beef from Walmart in one of the 10-pound packages and divided it. Every time we cooked it up my wife had to spend a lot of time picking out cartilage and bone fragments. Maybe just got a bad batch, but she's done with them.

Really? They use high grade meat, and I love the steak and roast from there. Costco may be a little better, but not by much.
