Would this play work against the 8 man zone?

Went back and watched the offensive possessions on replay. It seemed that when we immediately released the RB out wide that if we hit them immediately they’d have 5 yards minimum and if they made a guy miss they’d get an easy 8-12.

I know we threw to the back a ton but it was almost always as a check down and we didn’t hit him with momentum going forward.

Seems we could make that the primary option a few times and have a Spivey or Cumbest out blocking for it and the slot guy taking out the lb to that side and we would get 6 yards + a pop on 95% completion pattern. Plus we would be beating up the poor dbs out wide.

Figure out who is your best 1:1 offensive players and run this until the defense adjust.

Other thoughts from the rewatch:

K.J. was just really slow deciding where to go with the ball and was late delivering most balls which gave no chance at yac.

He also tends to drift back in the pocket and throw off that back foot which is a bad recipe. Against this defense you need to roll out or step up and try to get someone to account for you potentially running

We allowed pressure way way too much for a 3-man rush. Parker was the only one I didn’t notice getting beat badly multiple times.

The freshman rb didn’t look terrible but given how much they touched the ball neither showed anything special. Marks has more burst and is smoother.

Johnson has the td run but didn’t show consistent feet or power. Not sure he’s really a SEC back

Knowing what Kylin would have done on those runs might be unfair but watching it again it was clear he would have made a massive difference in that game.

The late 4q drives were hard to watch again as we left plays on the field and then made a couple of really bad presnap reads on a couple of run plays.

On K.J. third pick their DB gets some props. We had hit a run or two on the drive and tried a rare play action thinking he would bite up. He didn’t and then floated back to make a nice leaping int

Well that does it.

Call leach and take over play calling.

We can build a sand box so you can draw them up in the dirt!

Serious question - how does a zone defense shift to overloading a side like that?
