Would it be possible that our team was too stupid

To run Joe's program - or that more discipling than we were capable of maintaining was required to run his program and that he will be a huge success in Oregon, who most likely has a different culture and skill set.

Sometimes it wa sapinfully obvious how dumb our guys were and how little they seemed to care.

He will not be the head coach at Oregon. If he has success there it is because he only has to focus on play calling. And yes, there is more talent there for him to work with offensively and in a weaker league.

If we are too stupid to run it and hes smart enough to recognize that and not adjust, hes still the dumbass....

Ask this again after considering Chris Relf went from 4-8 in 2008 under Croom to 9-4 in 2010 under Mullen.
Football players aren't Mensa material, but they're not dummies; they do need discipline, consistency, a good routine, and leadership they trust.
Don't forget that Joe's Croomtastic "system" netted a delay of game on the first play at Auburn, was near the bottom of the league in offense, and everytime Joe was given more time for preparation the worse they looked. The system was fundamentally flawed on many levels.

There is no question in my mind that the talent was overcoming the coaching the past 2 years. A trained monkey coaching this team could have done no worse.

I just think we were sold a bill of goods. He had Saquon for crying out loud. Anything he dialed up was going to work. Throw in receivers that can catch and a competent qb against big 10 defenses, and....

by the time it was all said and done, Moorhead just wasn’t that dynamic of a playcaller and was actually quite bland....like surprisingly bland, borderline boring. Zero imagination. Just some ramshackle clusterfrick of a totally disjointed offense.

I’m not sure what you are suggesting, but no QB since (including Dak and Fitz) made the reads in the option game as well as Relf did.

I hate to say it but I think we were sold a bill of goods too. Our guys ain't too dumb to play football. A good coach can explain the process. It's on him

Either way you take it, you made my point. Players IQ is not the determining factor. For Petes sakes, Lamar Jackson can barely string words into complete sentences, and he won a Heisman and might be the MVP this year.

If a system can't maximize the strengths of the players who execute it, it's a **** system, no matter how you spin it.

Relf was awesome. Straight UM killer. And his game against Michigan was dang near perfect.

Lack of discipline off the field and outside of playing leads to lack of discipline on the field and how you practice.

Yep, Relf was absolutely deadly in Mullen's system but looked terrible in that "West Coast" disaster. While Relf successfully cashed in on a system tweaked to his skillset, Tyler Russell is someone who I feel was shortchanged in the shuffle.

It is very likely that Moorhead finds success after moving on. And that's OK, because it just didn't work here. We're both better off.

If you think people who need to cheat to pass a low level chemistry survey (phone in course) aren't dummies, then you show you are one of them.

And that's no BS.

I said it once and I'll say it again. Franklin put a leash on Moorhead's play calling. Coach O would do anything to keep Joe Brady but Franklin was helping Moorhead pack. Franklin realized Moorhead's offense was just as good without him.

Cheating isn't always about not being smart enough to pass a course. Some times it just as simple as taking the lazy and easy way out in a class. I don't think we can automatically assume it speaks to the players intelligence. They could have just been being lazy and taking the easy way out, and from what we have seen with Moorhead's discipline, then I could see how they would be tempted to do that and not be afraid of consequences.

Meridian, neither you nor I should assign blame for that to a lack of ability when good old fashioned laziness is just as likely.

Agreed. If anyone wants to see some imagination, go back and watch the Clemson offense during the first half of the championship game. Hell, you could even see the imagination in their defense when they kept bringing pressure from different angles in an attempt to rattle Burrow.

Granted, stuff like that doesn’t always work as we saw from Clemson’s very first play of the game, but the point is that the creativity was there. Moorhead’s idea of a completely out of the box bonkers play for us was either a jet sweep or a bubble screen. I could not believe how bland our offense was with his job on the line during both the egg bowl and the Music City game, but who knows... maybe he was ready to get out

I agree with both of these statements. Oregon will have smarter players and Joe will only be implementing his offense and NOT head coaching.

Chris Relf only went played in two games under Croom 2008 so how did he go 4-8?

I'll always have a big spot in my old Maroon heart for Dak.

Felker and Bond were two of our best QB's ever and definitely favorites.

But Chris Relf was Superman!

I think he will be our Orgeron: We couldn't wait to get rid of him, but he will go on to a successful career elsewhere. He may not win a national title like Ed, but no one was predicting that for Orgeron either.

Go look at his offensive production at Penn St against teams with a pulse. It sucked there too
