Would have things played out the same?

Do you believe we still end up where we are if we had stayed in the big12?
Fist off I believe our true fall started the second TO retired. It was a gradual decline under Solich. Got an extra hard shove thanks to Cally. Bo kept it to a stead walk down. Riley gave that last death blow to the head.
It is hard to say if our path would have ended up the same. I think it does or very close.

Yeah I think it ends up the same. CFB realignment has been going on for awhile, and it's not done.

I wish I could find the article, but there was an arrangement where the most viewed teams in America would be courted to sign a deal to their TV rights and schedule. Essentially putting those teams into a league of their own and not in a traditional conference.

The estimated payout in that league, IIRC ~80 million. Pretty much eliminating the need for ANY regional affiliation....like that matters anymore.

So you'd see all your traditional powers in one " league/conference". With the regular season being the playoff.....wonder if scholarship limits would be let go.

Delaney keeps referring to the P5 as the "Autonomous 5" because they have a clear road legally to break away from the FBS and pursue a separate league of their own as it sits right now.

One thing to consider is that the carousel hasn't stopped yet for CFB.

It might have changed. Perhaps Pelini is more successful in the Big 12 where his defense wasn’t gashed by power running teams. Perhaps he has a couple of good years and Frost gets here sooner when Pelini bolts for a “dream gig”. Perhaps the offensive transition from Beck to Frost is smoother than Beck to Riley.

We’ll never know but it might have been fun to stick around while Texa$$ was in decline too. Now that they might be rebounding, I’m glad we gone.

We probably still would have lost. They’ve owned us this century

  1. Starts with Harvey Pearlman basically destroying the leadership structure of the University and placing cutbacks on spending for the athletic department. It was well known that HP believed that athletics had no place in a college institution
  2. Dollar Bill's jealousy of Osborne's popularity and pull at NU that Byrne gave T.O. an ultimatum, that if he wanted to name his successor that he step down as HC or else if he didn't he and the University would choose one. Well B.B then left to take the same post at A&M making way for Shitbag Stevie P.
  3. Steve Pederson is the one that caused the never ending Tsunami that has steam rolled over this program all the way till now, as he did everything he could to remove all traces of what was once the envy of all Div 1/FBS in our culture and tradition on his way to creating his own image with his POS tradition and completely 0 culture. One of the 1st things he did to try and destroy what was, he started by the total alienation of the Husker Alum by not being welcome at the place where they left their blood, sweat and tears. Pederson in his vision was trying to force a total Big East state of mind in his creation here. His hiring of a HC making sure there were absolutely no ties to Nebraska whatsoever in any form. Pedey's hire especially with the way it was done and the bad publicity surrounding Callahan when he called his Raider's "The dumbest team in America" started our downfall in reputation and credibilty. He failed in his quest when Osborne shoved the proverbial boot up the shitbags *** when he was shown the door back in 07. It should be mentioned that Pederson and Cally were constantly at each other's throats. Still the wreckless hire that the nation was dumbfounded over set the ball in motion for what hasn't stopped until now 0 Tradition, 0 Culture, 0 Integrity and absolute failure of doing things the right way (The Nebraska way). There were 3 involved in this 2 catalysts and one trigger, that being Pederson.

Not sure if we would have bottomed out to this extent, but a bottom was coming. That said, if the future is as bright as I think it will be, the fall will be worth the rise.

I guess I would need sources and documentation on #2.

Osborne said privately in 1991 that he would retire after the 96 season. Byrne didn't become AD here until 1992.

Byrne was a good AD for facilities and boosters. He was a people person and not a bad guy IMO.

No I doubt it has either. Will be interesting to see where everyone shakes out. I don't every seen Neb leaving the BIG10 ( if that is what it is still called in the future)

Right. Logistically nothing else would make sense. I think conferences expand or go the way Sinomatic said above making a total remake

I know he got here in 92, but Osborne was still gonna keep going 3-5 more years after the 97 season.

At the rate of profit Nebraska makes currently logistics are no problem. 80 million and they could afford to have a full season of foreign exhibition games.

I guess WV makes it work. I just like the idea of being connected to the area.

People can keep pretending that they like the Big Ten better but we don't. The Big 12 was not going to implode...just like the bowl games are not "going away"

For fans, the games are about access...BTN is awesome, no doubt, but road trips in the Big Ten for most fans suck.
