Won't it be strange next year?

I wonder who will have the newest longest drought from power conferences. For the longest time it was us and Oregon St. Then it was just us.

Mother forking shirtballs...we had that big a lead in that category?! Eeeeek

Not quite "that big a lead"....not exactly how it breaks down since some context helps. Oregon State's NCAA drought was concurrent for most of the same time (started one year earlier as their last prior appearance was in 1990 - Gary Payton's last season) up until 2016. So Rutgers never had a longer drought for all of those years as OSU's streak was always one year longer....until 4 years ago.

In the meantime, Northwestern had never, ever had a single NCAA appearance in its entire basketball history up until 3 years ago in 2017, so that streak was the overall longest (if not distinguishing as a drought "between" appearances) until they went dancing that season. So only for the past two seasons (2018, 2019) has Rutgers exclusively had the longest drought of 27 and 28 years running but now in 2020 it should be all but dead and buried after today (officially a week from tomorrow on Selection Sunday).

On a separate note, Oregon State still has a longer drought than Rutgers in terms of last NCAA tourney victory whether counting since-vacated win (1982) or still recognized win (1975), while RU's last win was in 1983.

Actually Penn State had I think 19 years heading into this year but that will end too

I believe Nits had another appearance since 2001 that was in 2011.

Almost... as the BE is still a power conference, it's DePaul, 2004
After that, yes, Washington State. Weirdly, they kicked off their drought with 4 years of Klay Thompson

It took one of the greatest coaches ever (Tony Bennett) to break WSU's streak. Otherwise it would go back to 1994.

I like the giant big ten logo flags hanging in the rafters now, it definitely brings some color into the RAC. But man I wish we still had a banner for all the NCAA and NIT appearances instead of just one with the year etched into it. Would be cool to have a full banner unveiling

If we want to look outside the Power conferences, there are four D1 teams who have never made the NCAA Tournament: Army, St. Francis Brooklyn, The Citadel, and William & Mary. There are others of course, but these are the only four who had D1 programs when the tournament was initially established in 1939.

Gotta feel for William & Mary. They've been to their conference final nine times, and are 0-9.

:ShockedAnd a banner will hang at the RAC! (According to you know who it will read sweet 16)
I miss the old banners, one for every year. I used to get so much **** from opposing team friends visiting The RAC. How we used to have NIT (Not In Tournament) banners, etc.

I agree with your friends.. banners are for championships. Want more banners? Then win more things.
