Michigan at # 8 and Iowa at # 9 is interesting, given the outcome yesterday. The majority pollster opinion has Iowa over Michigan, but some outliers bring Iowa down, and one voter, by herself, determined the Michigan vs Iowa outcome with a very unusual ballot. Iowa was ranked higher on 23 of the 31 AP ballots, but Michigan's lowest ranking was 11 (2 voters), while Iowa was ranked 10, 12 (3 voters), 13, 14, 15, and 18, by the 8 voters who had Michigan above Iowa.

Iowa finished 9 points behind Michigan (522 to 531), but finished 14 points behind Michigan on the outlier-heavy ballot submitted by Marisa Ingemi of the San Francisco Chronicle:

I personally don't have an issue with the ranking. One game in a snake pit on senior day doesn't mean either team is drastically better (or worse) than the other. You still have to take into account the entire season. And Michigan's losses against common opponents are both by 3 points compared to 26 and 23 for Iowa (UConn and UCLA). A rematch in the BTT would be fun, as I think Iowa is a terrible matchup personnel wise for Michigan. Then the rankings drama can be fully fleshed out.

Ya this voter basically tilted those 2 so much that it put Michigan ahead of Iowa

This voter -Marisa Ingemi-was the outlier voter on 8 teams: Michigan, LSU, Michigan State, Baylor, Iowa, Tennessee and Washington. By far the biggest outlier voter.

I believe I read she copy and pasted her previous ballet and made no adjustment for results of games played during the week. Her voting privileges should be revoked.

Honestly I think the fans place more importance on these rankings than many of those responsible for filling them out.
