Hendersonville will stop at 50.
Our defense put up one of the worst performances in over 10 years last week, literally. Our guys are probably still on social media right now patting themselves on be back for beating a terrible franklin team

Our guys play some of the most undisciplined and just flat out dumb football to put it simply. They make the wrong play just about every time you can’t make the wrong play. We give up multiple 3rd and 20+s. Turn the ball over 4-5 times, just insane to watch and fathom that it’s varsity football. The type of things that happen in a pop warner football game are happening in our games. Hell one time our CENTER was next to a wide receiver catching a pass!!! Hendersonville was terrible tonight too and did everything they could to give us the game and we just wouldn’t take it. Sometimes you hear announcers say “it’s a shame one of these teams has to lose”. Well tonight, it was a shame somebody got to win! We deserved that L

Erwin is terrible from the looks of it. Maybe it will keep going and they will actually make a change, but I doubt it.

I have a question. What has happened to ASHEVILLE football ? It seems that after the old coach left that’s when the program took a turn. Cause I remember reading all kinds of great posts on here about Asheville football and seeing posts and story’s about great football games but after the old coach left it seems to have really went downhill. What’s your thoughts of the problem

Cost of living in Asheville is getting so high, people can't afford to live there anymore. So the only people living downtown are either inner city or mega rich non-football types.

Reynolds and Erwin benefited from the middle class moving to the suburbs.

Don't get me wrong, Asheville still has athletes but their teams now aren't built like they used to be.

You know I sorta thought that could have played a part of it but heck it’s always been expensive to live inside of Asheville tho

All great points heels, Also throw in they have tore down two housing developments where a lot of our players came from. Just getting expensive. A lot of folks moving to the county outside of Asheville.

It’s a combination of things. The participation is low, the kids are more interested in Facebook and Instagram than actually working hard, it’s gotten really expensive in the Asheville city school limits and there are rumblings of the coaching. You add all that up and you get 4 straight 6-5 seasons for a program that won 10 or more games in 2002,2003,2004,2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

You can blame the coaching to an extent but the coaches aren’t out there flexing after making a tackle after giving up a16 yard gain and giving up 50 Ppg. Losing has become acceptable to them and I don’t think they could care any less

1. The talent at Asheville High during the last 3-4 years has been the biggest reason for the records. The dynamic of kids playing football in the city school district is changing every year. It is not trending in a good direction for the future of the football program. The "dudes" that used to play at AHS are not there. A large majority of them are not living in the city district anymore. The families have moved to more affordable areas of Buncombe county with the changes that have come to the downtown area.

2. The coaching staff will continue to struggle as long as there are not more coaches in the high school itself. If I'm not mistaken there is one guy on staff that is in the high school on a daily basis. That is the HC. To have a successful program you can NOT have one guy in the building by himself. From what I've been told, coaching in the city school system is no longer a place that teachers want to spend their time. The lack of respect or even care that coaches receive is laughable.

3. The weight training class being taken away is another huge reason for the results. This is literal "football class". Expecting high school kids to handle on their own what is accomplished during this time is a joke.

4. Say what you want about the coaching staff and who they put on the field. No high school coach in this country keeps the better players on the sidelines unless there is an academic, attitude, lack of effort, or knowledge of plays problem.

Give it five to ten more years and you might see Asheville High School being a non-football school in the NCHSAA.

After the Hendo and High game, I made ventured into the direction of the home locker room. Only down for my 30th Class Reunion, I was going to snap a quick pic of the "Wall Of Fame". While I waited on the steps, I saw players throwing equipment, cussing.....no I mean dropping F bombs... I was shocked. Part of my quick improptu speach to get control of a dam that was seriously about to break, I told the players that there is always someone watching you. They may want to give you an opportunity to go to college, however, they want to see how you take a "L" as well as getting the "Dub. Save that emotion for when you get in that looker room. Once I told them what my plans were (getting ready to take a picture of myself 30 years later, standing next to to my pic), they chilled...looked at me crazy, but none the less, chilled. They stopped the rest of the team from showing out, until they got in the locker room. Even though I expect DEM PHAT CATZ to win every game, I do know that if they have not laid the foundation over the summer, it's going to be a loonngg season. BTW, not knocking anyone, but tact, discipline, and pride can be coached ANYWHERE. Once a team cosigns on it, then you can build your team.
