Won in double OT tonight. Team is super talented, no way they should have 10 losses!

I thought with their talent and schedule they would have done much better. Not sure what's going on with them and Stansbury.

Does anyone know why their last regular season game is Feb 16? Seems really early to me, especially since their conference tournament starts on March 13

Their season has been baffling.

Last night was a good sign because they finally pulled out a tough game on the road. However, it was against 9-14 Rice.

Fortunately for them, if you look at C-USA standings it's a total mess. WKU has the second-highest RPI (95) behind ODU (86), and despite tanking so many games they are in mix. ODU is at 9-3, two teams at 8-3, and WKU is at 7-4.

Because C-USA decided to schedule the last 4 conference games based on the standings 2/16.

https://herosports.com/college-basketball/dan-dantoni-marshall-conference-usa-flex-scheduling-ahah

So WKU actually has four regular season games left after 2/16, but they don't know who they're against yet.

That sounds a bit like how my daughter’s little league is run.

The league administrator, who sets the schedule, (and also coaches, by the way), sets the schedule after about 4 games have been played and he gets a sense of who the top teams are.

The best teams end up playing each other 2x down the stretch. Of course, none of this “official”, it’s just what he does, because he’s got the authority to manipulate things.

Meh, they can play when the decide to play as a team. Wayyyy too much hero ball. I mean And1 circuit things WKU runs too many clear outs. IF and it is not happening, everyone came back next year, WKU would have the top 8 guys back and a Jr. and Sr. lead team. Anderson is a human highlight reel. He had 2 posters last night.

Makes me miss the Bracket Buster games....was always a great showcase for the mid-majors.

I noticed North Texas has a really good record in their conference. Hope the state can get 4 teams in the tourny though, would be exciting!

I think the idea is to try to get more than one bid. This year CUSA had a good chance before conference play started and then the teams at the top got a couple bad losses. It will be a one bid league again this year but hopefully that last 4 games being against Top 100 teams can help a decent bit with whatever seed that team can obtain in the NCAA tournament.

WKU has Top 25 talent and has at-large bid level wins, but the terrible losses ruined any chance pretty quickly.

It's almost like when you build a team based on how much you pay handlers and parents you don't end up with cohesion or chemistry.

The Bassey kid almost cost WKU the game last night because he goaltended a layup at the end of the first OT. Team obviously has some issues.

WKU should be a lot better than they have performed. No one in C-USA has the talent that the Toppers have.

WKU has been disappointing this year but they are a young squad. They've had a terrible tendency to play up/down to their competition. I turned off last night's game thinking Rice had it so I'm pleased WKU turned it around.

Mark my words, if WKU wins the C-USA Tournament then they'll be our first round opponent.

Yes he did. But i would not exactly call trying to tip a missed shot in "costing them the game." It was a tie game, the shot looked as if it might come off the rim, he touched it while still in the cylinder. How is that "almost costing them they game ?" Funny, you did not mention the huge blocked shots and rebounds he got in the last few minutes of regulation and ot's. Agenda much ? But pick 1 play out and magnify that one.

Because the ball was going in and they would have won the game right there if he didn’t goaltend lol. They had a chance to lose when it went to another OT. The kid is a first round pick, he made some great plays but that could have really cost them.

Yep. Yet this board still overrates him. Overrates Bruce Pearl even more.

I mean, you could also argue he has done "more with less" than most coaches. Nobody has won at Mississippi State before or after he was there. WKU has been in a slump for about 10 years but he has them back in the national conversation the last two years. These aren't big name blue blood programs we are talking about. He isn't a great X's and O's coach, but he is decent enough. He excels at recruiting, though, and the talent is usually enough to make his teams really good most years despite being at less than ideal programs.

Maybe you could view it that way, but i viewed it as the kid was playing hard, did not just stand there when the ball looked as though it might come off the rim. He was actually trying to win the game. It was a close play, definitely still in the cylinder, but the officials thought it was close enough, the reviewed it. Now if he turned it over, made a stupid foul like grabbing a guy or fouling on a 3 pointer, etc. i would say he nearly cost them the game. But dunking a ball looking like it was coming off the rim, i just can't put that "nearly cost them the guy" tag on him.

I'm a WKU grad and so obviously always root for them. At this point, with 10 wins in C. USA, I think they've got to get the auto bid. That's sad considering the amount of talent.
