Without looking it up, do you know who the Gamecocks were scheduled to play on Saturday, September 15th, 2001? Obviously that game was cancelled, as were all college football games across the country. The answer is below:

The answer is Bowling Green, coached at the time by Urban Meyer. That game was not rescheduled.

We played the first major college football game on the following Thursday Night @ Mississippi State. We were able to add Wofford to the schedule the week before the Clemson game. We had played Furman and other 1-AA opponents in the past but, at the time, it felt odd to have Wofford in Williams-Brice…like they weren’t a big enough opponent to play SC or Clemson. Similar to when we added SC State to the schedule a few years later. The Wofford kicker had one arm (important side note) and that game was an a$$ kicking. We beat Clemson at home for the first time since 1987.

This also led to Steve Spurrier losing his final game as Florida HC in the Swamp to Tennessee. Usually the Week 3 matchup and CBS Opener for SEC Football, that game was moved to the end of the season.

Crazy season, but a successful one for the Gamecocks.
