Do we just abandon a concerted effort to run the ball and use it as just a change of pace instead? I think so. Probably going to have to live and die with Lee for this season.

I would against Northwestern for sure. They are 120th in passing defense and Nebraska is 30th in passing offense. Nebraska is 108th in rushing offense and Northwestern is 17th in rushing defense.

Tanner Lee is far and away your best player on offense. Let him fling it and ride him as far as he can take you. Throw in a little run just to keep the D a little honest.

If Lee continues his pace that he has had the last 4 games, his final stats look like they could be around 3500 yards, 23 TD and 11 INT. If you told me at the beginning of the season that this would be his stats, I would have said that Nebraska would be 10-2 or maybe 9-3 at the worst. It has been a tale of 2 seasons for him so far. Glad he is finally living up to some of the hype. He was getting eaten alive after 4 games, but has really looked good as of late. Hope he plays well to end the season so we have a good finish. No matter how we finish, I still think Riley is done though.

I think we feel out the running game early and if it's not there, it's time to abandon it and let Lee sling it. With our patchwork Oline, I don't see us having a consistent running game. Heck, the up tempo seemed to work well the last couple drives. I could see them changing pace a few times a game. As bad as our defense has been, it's too bad we don't have a running game to protect them some and going to an all out passing game can be tricky.

in Riley's system the pass opens up the run, as opposed to Dr. Tom where the run opened up the pass. the trick is knowing when and where, and with whom.
I can't count the time we used to run the I-back 5 times then BAM hit the tight end for a 15 yarder.

in the same way lee need to pass 5 times then BAM ohzigbo right up the gut for a 9 yard gainer..

I think he's just gotten used to the pressure for the most part. I'm guessing in practice our lines weren't prepping him.

So your saying where going to run the ball 50 times. Langs likes to go against the grain
Beat me to it. Honestly would not surprise me in the least to see Langs decide this is the game where we are going to stubbornly stick with pounding the ball.

This is what Northwestern did with MSU last week. We couldn't run the ball, so we passed nearly every down, unless we were 1-2 yards away from a 1st down and depended on Justin Jackson to convert, which is definitely one of his strengths.

MSU did the same thing against us. Northwestern's pass defense stats looks really bad because of our bend, don't break philosophy. However, our safeties have also been beaten deep once or twice every game. They'll need to clean that up against Lee and Nebraska's receivers.

8 in the box, either way, with a depleted OL.

Just put Tanner in the shotgun and let him have his NFL audition. 4 wide. Get those young fast slots in the game and have at it.

Agree

Hey Tuco, do you think Fitz doesn't know this already???

He'll have his way with our depleted offensive line, either dropping extra in coverage (and still getting a nice rush) or giving Tanner about .5 seconds to pass, is my guess...

We’ll see. If they could stop the run with less and drop more into coverage they wouldn’t be ranked 120 in pass defense after 8 games.

Just like last week, I think we squeak this one out. Doesn't change a thing, though.

Carriker said it best, in that the Huskers need to stop trying to be what Rliey and Langsdork want us to be and just be who we are. If that means slinging the rock 50 times a game then so be it.

If we win out, Riley will be retained. If we go 7-5, Riley will likely be retained. Back to back losses to PSU and Iowa does not punch his ticket.

Good to know Bill Moos is on the board and telling us the future of the program.

Do you even watch the games? Have you seen how bad the Huskers are? Just another person writing nonsense.

How much does Riley pay you to write these things?

I hope Lee continues to do 'good' .. so much that he gets his shot at the league and goes. I don't want to see him QB at Nebraska any longer than is necessary.

Been awhile since you’ve posted...

At least you’re still consistent.

Back to the States for awhile, but still jet lagged ;)

My big problem with Lee isn't so much his stat sheet, and granted some people are into that sort of thing. To me, the QB position is so much more than that. As an individual, he's playing well.

Played pretty good against osu, but didnt do anything until we were already blown out. You're not counting Purdue as better competition are you?

True. But I'll take it against those kind of athletes.

I was thinking of Wisconsin; however, I don't think Purdue is any worse than Western Arkansas, NIU or Rutgers.
