cancel the 2020 football season, minimize the amount of coaching turnover after the 2020 season, perhaps reset coaching contracts significantly downward as revenues plummet, and on, and on and, on. Given all that, how dumb and incompetent do you think Billy Napier feels right about now??

I think so too

Pretty damn dumb because the days of the big $$$ coaching contracts may be coming to an end.

Didn't we just offer Vic $2 Mil for women's basketball? I enjoy State winning at anything but that's crazy. How much revenue does that sport that generate? Look for coaches to be furloughed and athletic dept. budgets to be cut. The University of Michigan is estimating a loss of $400,000 and perhaps $1 billion. A lot of people might find out how little some colleges actually spend on academics in overall budgets. Lots of dead weight but highly paid administrators and staff like associates to the assistant associate dean of wasteful spending and diversity officers that don't really do much but fill patronage positions. 22 million Americans are out of work. We might be facing massive bankruptcies especially for businesses that anchor some communities. Who knows what it will be like next month. Cities and states are facing massive losses in revenue. Hard to justify huge college budgets with so much suffering around the country. I hope I'm wrong and we get back to normal. It's amazing what's happened in a few weeks but we weren't prepared for a pandemic and neither is much of the rest of the world. The stock market is up a bit after crashing for the second time in about a decade. But we'll see what happens with those dismal revenues come in. Maybe the Feds can bail us all out like it does Wall Street. We can print money. But, at some point our national debt may catch up with us. It doesn't seem appropriate to pay coaches enormous salaries to not coach when so many other people are unemployed. It really shouldn't surprise anyone if massive changes unfold over the next few months. Again, hope I'm wrong. How much do we owe on our baseball stadium?

Where in the world did you read that about Michigan? Michigan has a budget of $190 million and expenses of $189 million. With no revenue at all, it would take them 5 years to lose $1 billion. It’s not possible at all for them to lose $1 billion in a year or even $400 million.

Higher education was in need of serious reform. The academy has incredibly bastardized the humanities to the point that it's more beneficial to the nation to not even teach them rather than the propaganda they have become.

Use higher education for true education in the necessary fields that demand it like STEM, and in manners which benefit the public. The humanities have a vital place in society, but they need a reset and to find a new medium through which to be pursued.

We need humanities profs now more than ever. Who else is gonna tell us the absolute truth that this socially-constructed virus perpetuates patriarchal cisgendered white, male hegemonic power structures that destroy and render invisible black, brown and non-gender conforming bodies, and their truths and lived experiences, in order to perpetuate brutal, neoliberal structures that prevent the liberation of the self from arbitrary power?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Saw this morning that Boise State is furloughing many of its employees, including coaches and athletic staff. Anybody making more than $40,000 per year will be required to take furloughs between May 3 and July 31. Those making more than $150,000, which is most of the football staff, will have to take 10-day furloughs. The head coach makes $1.65 million in base salary, so he will forfeit about $63,000.

So was I? Where did I say otherwise?

Well your post was doing nothing but talking about athletic departments and you replied to a post about athletic departments, so you know context.

Your sentence right before you mentioned Michigan talks about athletic departments and furloughed coaches.

My bad. When I wrote this, "The University of Michigan is estimating a loss of $400,000 and perhaps $1 billion. A lot of people might find out how little some colleges actually spend on academics in overall budgets" I should have been more specific and not just write "The University of Michigan" when I'm specifically referring to The University of Michigan. I should have added something like "btw, I'm actually referring to The University of Michigan and not specifically its athletic program" to avoid confusion. Your misinterpretation is my fault. Apologies
