Somebody in the NCAA office is making a lot of money and doing nothing to make the NCAA better. Just sitting back and drawing a big check because there is nobody to hold him accountable for not doing his job.

This is just so wrong and you can bet other schools will do what Memphis is doing by paying big time recruits to move or some BS and then fight the NCAA . A can of worms has just been opened up.

To all those who don't think we should give perks to players, offer jobs to family, etc. - I know it feels great being the last ethical man standing, but isn't there a part of you that is battle fatigued at this point?

We're the only kid in the class who didn't steal the professor's answer sheet, and now even the professor is saying it's fine, and yet we're still getting As in the class by studying 20 hours for the test while everyone is bringing cheat sheets to class.

Because he didn't have the job when this happened.

That's a little detail quite a few people here seem to be missing. This payment happened when Hardaway was a high school coach, he hadn't been hired by UM yet.

Doesn't matter. He is still a booster for Memphis and they are not allowed to give money to recruits. He should be penalized for that. Do you think he was going to pay that money for some other coach's benefit or because he was using it to get the Memphis job? He should have to sit out every game with Wiseman.

Between Memphis cheating and getting by with it and the paying players proposal it's all going to be a big mess. LSU and Arizona and all of the rest of the schools cheating are going to keep right on doing it. The NCAA will still be watching for Kentucky to misstep where they can kill two birds with one stone getting Cal and Kentucky, the NCAA's most wanted.

I am glad for the kid I really am... but the NCAA is such as jackass organization. A bunch of egotistical , antiquated old men out of touch with reality and so afraid to lose any power or take real stands. They will crack down on the most basic thing, yet let a 25 year academic scandal go without punishment.. what a joke!

This was obviously going to happen. I said he would be suspended 5-10 games and he got 12. NCAA is a little different than when Kanter played and the situation is different anyways. Wiseman also has to donate 11,500 to charity. Sounds like a win for both sides as college basketball fans get to watch a great player and Wiseman gets to play
Booooo!

that's the amazing thing here - No college kid in this situation is going to get $11K on his own and so he'll get someone to give him the money who isn't a "booster"

And the NCAA won't ask questions or follow up with this on how he got the money, they don't care because the press release has already gone out.

who even follows up with him paying the money?

So the moral to the story is, have a middle man give him the money and he plays.
Which is rampant in college basketball now.

Hardaway is allowed to give recruits money and not lose his job? How? Wiseman is allowed to take the money and still play? How?
All a school has to do is threaten to take NCAA to court and they will back down. They are not going to court and have to explain how they let the big money making schools slide and then burn small schools for doing far less. That is called discrimination and it is there in black and white. The NCAA is not going to court and have to explain themselves it is not going to happen

How can this be fixed? I'd say that we should all just stop watching sports, but that's not realistic. I'm going to watch my Cats. Where does it end? This is supposed to be COLLEGE (or university) basketball. An education first, root or participate for your school second.

This can not be fixed. The NCAA lost their grip on this when it allowed UNC to change their story from these were fraudulent courses to easy courses...letting UNCheat get away with everyrhing. That was the beginning of the end. NCAA is a paper tiger now. No one is scared of them anymore.
