Wiseman has an upcoming visit to Kansas. Is anybody concluding that’s where he’s headed now?;)

I was impressed with Wisemsn's play this past weekend up in nyc. If he is waiting to commit for fear of Memphis fans rxn, then I don't know bout his toughness. He needs to look at how herro and monk became stronger players going thru all the boos etc from their homestate. I am just gonna focus on this season, we have something special happening and if he comes to UK awesome, if he doesn't oh well

Penny better strike while the iron is hot because once he has a season under his belt and the losses are piling up, it's all over. He better get these guys to sign in the fall in blood because if they wait til spring, they will go elsewhere.
I actually think Penny will have success at Memphis. Just keeping the Memphis area kids home he will have more talent than every team in his conference except maybe Uconn. He also has MAJOR connections in the basketball industry.Despite what many would have you believe, I'm sure Penny knows basketball, he's played at all levels and coached at the AAU level . It's more about the Jimmies and Joes than the X and O's .

Surprising that he's not visiting in August? No, we usually being guys in for BBM in October.

It's different with Wiseman. Cal & staff were hoping to get him to campus soon with all the Penny stuff. The longer he goes without visiting the more likely it is that Penny is in sole control. It's not exactly a secret that Penny is pushing an early commitment & hoping to keep James from visiting.

The longer Wiseman waits to make a commitment I think it favors UK.
Especially if he gets to compare the products UK and Memphis are putting on the floor this season.:)
The fact Cal has not offered any other bigs in a long time tells me he's confident about Carey and/or Wiseman.

Every elite recruit we go after has other programs going after them too. This is no different, a ton of guys visit later in the year.

This is a pretty laughable . He said he might not visit in August . He never said he wasn't visiting. I mean does this need to said even? What is the funniest part is of any big man we are recruiting Wiseman still is probably the most likely Cat. There is nothing to say otherwise. Every recruiting analyst will tell you it is a true toss up with him between UK and Memphis . People act like we are going to get Carey , a kid we don't have a great shot at , yet the kid who has been the closest thing to a lock for 3 years they act like is never going to happen. Insanity. Although this is recruiting so anything could happen . Watch Carey go to Memphis and Wiseman to the G-league ( I know that ain't happening but that is just an example) .

Also Wiseman has been on campus before so why would that be a big deal anyway?

Care to make a friendly wager? I’m of the mindset we will NOT reel in Wiseman. Have thought this for awhile. Doesn’t matter though , we have the best recruiter in college basketball and we will be fine.

Kansas could probably take him, but I think Hurt and JRE are priority recruits. We'll probably lose D. Lawson, U. Azubuike and De Sousa. That would allow for a rotation of McCormack, JRE, and Wiseman in the post. Hurt will play on the perimeter.

2 week self ban bet that Wisemen will NOT commit to KU.

It’s weird that you think it’s a possibility especially considering the FBI probe and it being now proven self/ KU cheated...

Sure, the Jimmies and the Joes will get the recruits in the door, but only for a short time. And I won't argue Penny is loved and will continue to be loved in Memphis. He's a home grown talent who made it big and that story sells. That will carry him pretty far in Memphis, but the problem is that he must win for that recruiting success to remain. AAU ball won't cut it at the D1 level of college basketball. I could be wrong about his coaching acumen, but what I've read and heard tells me that he's not even the caliber of a Josh Pastner. Pastner could recruit, as we all know, but he couldn't coach at this level. Now, they will give Penny the benefit of every doubt and they will be patient with him for the aforementioned reasons, but the recruits with true NBA potential will leave Memphis if he's not winning.

Maybe he is waiting to go to Big Blue Madness again this season with Carey in October? [winking]

Vernon Carey to visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness
Two pretty good bigs to pattern your game after.:)
Carey, who had said previously he patterns his game after former Wildcats Anthony Davisand DeMarcus Cousins, says Calipari and Kentucky's track record with elite big men serve as huge attractions.

Not shedding a tear over a kid. Don't care how good he is. Let him go elsewhere.

Cal will get the right kids for Kentucky.

The writing was on the wall when he went to another AAU team with connections to the Memphis coaching staff. It shows that he was listening to the Memphis guys on where to go.............

He didnt listen to Cal and go to a prep school.......... shows who he's not listening to....

Even if memphis struggles this year.... Wiseman will still go there because Penny will sell him on being the "missing piece" and "we're just getting started bro"

This, plus when he decided to stay at the same HS and play. I think Momma wants him to stay home, where she can watch him play every day.

Meanwhile, K takes two "once in a generation" bigs like Bagley and Okafor and does his damndest to keep them away from going #1 overall.

So she also anticipates the Grizzlies drafting him in '20? At some point, the young fella's go to grow up.

I agree, and I hope Cal can work his magic but, the trend seems like it is going to be tough getting him away from Memphis (the city, and the school)

Yep he should be one of the 4 bigs in this class. But we will need at least 1 elite big as well ( carey or Wiseman) .To be fair I could care less which one we get as long as we get one of them. We miss on both and the 19 team will struggle . I mean with 8-10 new players they struggle regardless but with a top 3 big it makes things easier. IMO Oscar , Wiseman , maybe Cockburn and then a stretch 4 could be what the doctor ordered.

Starting to think that Wiseman may not be the player that many make him out to be. Too me, he is starting to feel like Bagley. I thought Bagley was one of those players that if you had on your team, it would make you unstoppable, like AD, but he lack something, that next level of eliteness that cannot be measured by stats. Don't get me wrong, Bagley put up insane numbers and was a monster.

This is also why I think Bagley won't be a super star in the NBA. He likely will be similar to Blake Griffin, a stat monster but just is missing that next level factor.

So Wiseman, as great as he could be, would not be the answer and maybe more trouble than it is worth.

I started to think that, the longer he stays uncommitted , the more he "sucks". I get it, the more bad news on the recruiting front iadds more fuel that he is a bust...I know I am preparing myself, but after watching the Slam Classic , kid is special. Can't even compare him to anyone in NBA. The way he moves for his size, and the way he makes things look easy. I want him, he is the Center for next yrs Best Ever Defensive Team in all of NCAA History. Him n Lewis at the 2 Maxey at point, Kahlil at 3, Carey/hurt at the 4...yeah its a stretch, but doesn't matter cause we have the best team in the nation come March '19. Go Big Blue!!!

If I were Wiseman I wouldn't want it to look like I was leaning toward UK. I would want to finish my high school season and then make my choice public. There is no reason to make his choice public and take all the abuse from the Memphis fans. It is not like a normal recruitment because of the enormous hate for Cal in Memphis. Just my thoughts.

The only issue with that is that Wiseman isn't really from Memphis. He's from Nashville. He moved to Memphis by choice to play for Penny, and now he's choosing to stay when all kinds of prep schools would take him in a heartbeat.

Doesn't mean he won't choose UK, and it could play out exactly like you're saying, but if he was really set on UK, the easier thing would have been to get out and just leave Memphis behind.

Since 2015 we haven't and can't get a top 3-5 recruit

Skal was 3 in 2016

Upcoming class has two top 10 guys , Maxey being 6 but yeah that’s not “top 3-5”

I think you and others keep forgetting we went on a “hiatus” recruiting wise when Cheating Capel/ duke were paying players (Bagley) and miraculously getting them reclassified AND eligible (Bagley and Duval) along with the FBI probe affecting a lot of schools (Ayton was literally bought and paid for)

Guys.....He is going to Memphis. It went from Kentucky is his dream school and its a guarantee he is a cat. To Penny is the coach at Memphis, to DJ not just decomitts but his dad tries to sling mud at us, to Wiseman dragging out his visit. Lets not be the guy who's girlfriend leaves him and is hanging out with other guys at the party but you think there is hope because she looked at you. Wiseman was going to Memphis the second that Penny became coach. And thats ok. His mom wants him to "be a kid" and stay there. So be it. Carey eats Wisemans lunch. Wiseman got dominated twice last month. Let it go, we wanted him and DJ, but they want to play for their high school coach so forget them. We dont chase em we replace em twice over.
