At this age a kid knows if the family has this kind of money or not so yes he knew.
He was probably 15 or 16 during the move. Maybe even 17. I didn’t ask my parents where they got their money from at that age and still don’t!!! He may have knew and even been the one to have asked for it for all I know, but you or no one else doesn’t know for sure. It’s not like they would’ve changed their lifestyle or anything with 11 grand or anything.

If the sum total of the violation is Penny helping him move, that is beyond ridiculous. Was it carrying boxes, or paying for the movers, plane tickets, what? If the latter, levy a fine, and a couple games and be done with it. NCAA is a joke. Ban a player for that, and let years of academic fraud go unpunished.

No offense, but people need to quit bringing up this UNC ruling everytime a school does something shady.

We know the NCAA protects dUKe and UNC*; but forget that when it comes to other schools. Hardaway 100% orchestrated this to get the Memphis job. They should get hammered

Curious how do you know whether it changed their lifestyle or not. If you are family or friend I understand. But a 16 or 17yr old knows if he has cable or if the family has a decent car to drive or house to live in.

Come on man. 10 grand isn’t changing anything for Hardly anyone, not much!! I’m just assuming it didn’t change their life! You know, just like you’re assuming it did and made them rich or whatever. I’m sure if they were able to take him around the country all his life to play basketball, they probably had cable, and aren’t as poor as your trying to act like they are. You can act like you’re smart by asking if I’m family, but you know I’m not so why even ask?

I’m done with this if you can’t be civil about it, and Just because you want the kid to be a bad guy doesn’t make him one. Also I don’t really care about anyway. We get our fair share of good players so there’s no need for us to try to make everyone that doesn’t pick us a bad kid. Saying that, I did say he could be the one who actually took it, and if so, he should be punished.

You gotta be a Memphis shill. Wiseman is ineligible. Penny Hardaway gave the family money. No way the parents don’t share the name of such a high profile benefactor. The university clearly knew about this during recruitment. It was the damn coach that paid the money before he was coach. You want people to be civil here, act like you got a damn brain. The burden of proof is very low for the NCAA in this case again Memphis. They knew yet they did not fully disclose.

Bottom line is this stinks. Everyone can smell it. Memphis failed to wipe their *** and is about to get cleaned up the hard(a)way.

Feel better internet tough boy? I’m nothing to Memphis!! I’m Kentucky all the way. If you would’ve read why I posted that you asshat , maybe you would say differently. He was trying to act like he gave it straight to the kid or something. That’s never been reported. Just that the family got money. Not James himself. But you keep on being a tough boy. The ol keyboard badass. Lmao. Funny.

My thoughts are this today. The ncaa hasn’t gone to federal court to strike down the county judge. I think they are going to let his ruling stand, let wiseman play, then decide what to do later. It’s monday mid day and the ncaa has done nothing. Even their statement Friday was he is “likely ineligible”. Wiseman is going to continue to play imo. The ncaa won’t ban memphis from the tournament. Instead they will go to vacate everything and hammer memphis. The ncaa no teeth doesn’t even have dentures.

I really don’t know if they have a need to tell a 16 year old kid their business or not! Why would they? It doesn’t really matter how I smell though! There you go again being tough! This internet lets people act that way doesn’t it?? Sure doesn’t happen any other time.

Anyway, like I said before you chimed in with your toughness, maybe they did tell him or maybe not, my parents sure in the hell never told me where their money came from, and I never asked!! And it was 10,000 or whatever, is that a lot of money to you?? Would that change the way you live, or would you just pay off a bill or take a trip, or even just put it in the bank like most people?? Maybe they just moved and didn’t tell their kid anything but “Come on, we’re moving “! I really don’t care what they did or didn’t do to tell you the truth. But the little, calling names and trying to act like someone is stupid isn’t cool.

I’ll say it Again, if he himself took or even knew about the money, then he should be punished! There you go chief!!

It really doesn't matter whether he knew or not. He is still ineligible according to NCAA rules.
The NCAA changed that rule after Cam Newton. It is no longer a defense to claim the recruit did not know. If the parents, guardian, handler, etc receives money then the recruit is ineligible whether he claims he knew or not.

doesn't matter if he knew...Penny knows that is a conflict of interest to take him as a player, once he was named head coach. If Penny claims ignorance, that is BS; he may be stupid, but he is not that stupid.

It’s an interesting situation. Memphis is going to fight it. It’s the new way. UNC did and won. KU is going to fight it. But there’s risk. If they lose and Wiseman is declared ineligible they will probably have to vacate every game he plays in. As I understand it by joining the NCAA you agree to their rules. I would guess that’s one of the arguments the NCAA will use. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and how quickly or slowly. Who knows with the knuckleheads at the NCAA. I’m just glad we don’t have any clouds hanging over UK’s program.

A smart program would bench the kid until the situation is resolved.

I honestly don’t think there’s another program in the country that is this in your face arrogant to where they would insist on playing the kid while his eligibility is in doubt.

Penny did the same thing when Wiseman was ruled ineligible by the Tennessee High School Athletic Association when he transferred to Memphis. Penny got a restraining order to allow him to play. It went on for two years and nothing was ever done about it and Wiseman continued to play and win a state championship for Penny. That will not happen with the NCAA. Penny will not bully them like he did the Tennessee High school athletic association. The NCAA has to make a stand or disband the whole organization.

That would seem the smart move, but KU sat that kid for a year, and he was ultimately declared eligible. Maybe that’s what Memphis is hoping.

First of all stop being over emotional, Second, I did not know what your connection was, and no I don’t know if he’s poor or rich but if bills were being paid by someone else so there are grounds to think that. Civil? Lighten up if they took money from the HC before he was the HC it’s a problem and the rules were broken. Actually I don’t give a crap but this is a discussion board so I was discussing. Nothing more nothing less, it’s not my goal in life to upset you, I hope you realize that now. Have a good one.

It doesn’t matter if Hardaway was the coach when money passed hands. He was trying to steer Wiseman to play at his alma mater.
Why would Penny care if his parents moved to Memphis if for no other reason than to influence Wiseman’s college choice?

Memphis and Penny need to be buried by the NCAA now. Their cheating will be rampant if nothing happens here.

Man I do understand what you’re saying and I do agree with you. All I’m saying is that we don’t know for sure if James himself knew what they were doing! He was 16 at the time and that’s just pretty young to be handling your parents finances. Lol. I’ll say again though that it’s possible and if so, he should be punished, if not he shouldn’t. Also there’s no need to name Call! I’ve spent way too much time on this when I don’t care either way, so I’m done with Wiseman. Thank u and have a good evening! Go Cats!

Trust me, they know. Olympic hopefuls, D1 potential athletes, scholarship candidates all get used to drug testing and amateurism requirements. While there may be a VERY slim chance the dumbest people on the planet are involved, only a preponderance of evidence is necessary. For the Scumversity of Memphis the bar is a lot lower still. We will soon learn if Memphis is as incompetent with their contracts as LSU.

Maybe the holiday aspect is why the ncaa didn’t act but I have a feeling they aren’t going to do squat until after the season. This is going to turn into another LSU or Arizona or Kansas take your pick. They all cheated and in will wades case was on tape for the “strong *** offer” and hell hes still coaching. Memphis is going to play out the season with an ineligible player and tell the ncaa to screw itself. This is what happens when you cave on UNcheat then all the scandal happening now. The ncaa didn’t keep LSU out of the tournament last year who the hell respects them? It’s a POS organization. When they came after UK we obviously bent over for them Bc in reality they have zero power. What a nightmare the end is nigh

Btw theoretically there is no harm to wiseman Bc he can go to the Gleague and take the 125k. In the meantime he can cash in on a big endorsement deal. Playing in college isn’t the only rodeo

Yes I agree with you. I would be willing to bet that 10 grand is close to 1/4 people's annual salary on average in this country

People can steal from you , cheat you and harm you but a person has to give away their integrity. Penny and the Weisman family gave away theirs first then Memphis U. did it later.
