Looks like a player and would be a welcome addition....that being said, for once I'd like to see a guy with some real interest in Nebraska that has 6-9 or 6-10 under his name instead of 6-1 or 6-3.

I've definitely said/thought the same thing many times over the last few years, but I'm somewhat comfortable this won't be an issue with Hoiberg. We've got 4 guys 6'8" or taller who should contribute next year, and that doesn't include Shamiel who is a load at 6'6". It'd be nice to have a Jalen Smith though!

I'm not sure how much he would play next year if he gets immediately eligible. The wing position will be pretty crowded with Burke, Green, Allen, Thor, Stevenson, and Banton. King is only a 25% 3-point shooter which is worse than everyone on our roster this year other than Easley. Seems like he could benefit from a redshirt year to work on his shooting.

Agreed. You'd think we'd be going after guys that can either rain 3s or are 6-9 or taller.

King must have something going for him, given that he started Wisconsin's first 19 games this year and averaged more than 28 minutes per night. That's a lot of playing time on a team that's in fourth place in the BIG and will be a 7 or 8 seed in the tournament, so I like his chances of getting on the floor at NU.

No kidding. No offense to anyone, but it’s kinda presumptuous to think you know who’s going to play next year. The more talent and competition the better.

Yeah, and while 7-for-28 from the arc is not a great stat, 28 threes is a pretty small sample size. Thor was 4-for-23 last year (.174) and didn't look like he could throw it in the ocean, but he's over 40% this season.

Banton can play the point. In fact, you could see this lineup:
  1. Banton
  2. King
  3. Allen
  4. Stevenson
  5. Ouedraogo or Walker
As for King's 3-point percentage, as someone noted, he took only 28 this year. He shot 30 percent last year, which isn't great, but he'll be two years removed from his redshirt freshman year. It will be good to see a more mature lineup out there, even with Ouedraogo still at only 18 years. old.

You think Mack is leaving?

I have no idea, but it's possible he may not start. You have seven players who are potential starters at three positions, the point and two wings:
  1. Mack
  2. Banton
  3. Allen
  4. King
  5. Thor
  6. Green
  7. Burke
Who are the best three? We keep hearing from Hoiberg himself about the awesomeness of Banton, who is a point guard. Do you put him at a wing so Mack can start? If so, who gets benched for Banton? Allen or King? Or is Banton the sixth man?

Before we got King's commitment, it seemed easy to project Mack, Allen and Banton as the starters in the backcourt. Now it's not so easy, but a good problem to have if you're the coach.

None of these guys are likely front-court players, and with Stevenson, Walker, Ouedraogo, Cross, Mayen and Arop up front, we have the depth not to have to slide Thor or Banton to the four unless the situation calls for it.

So whom do you bring off the bench? Mack? Banton? Allen? King? Or if you start all four of them, do you bench Stevenson, or start him as a 6-6 post?

Lots of questions to answer, but if we roll with the 13 scholarship players we have committed for next year, 12 of them will have Power 5 experience, the only exception being Banton, whom Hoiberg calls a special player with unlimited potential.

I wonder if he would write the that way after today
If he changed his opinion because it's Nebraska, he wouldn't be a very good journalist. Ask any prospect in the country "choose either Fred Hoiberg or Greg Gard to get you to the NBA", I think we know the unanimous answer.

He doesn’t have a redshirt year left, he’s got 2 years to play 2, assuming he gets a waiver.

I wouldn't bet on Nebraska getting this kid a waiver. We can't have nice things!

Cam Mack will be back and will be starting. Once his layups start going down he will probably get 15 a game easy. Just way to fast.

Cam is good, no doubt. So whom do you bench? King (assuming he's eligible immediately)? Banton (Hoiberg loves his game)? Allen (proven Power 5 player)? Stevenson (if you put all four of the aforementioned players in the starting lineup)? Ouedraogo or Walker (if you put all five of the aforementioned players in the starting lineup and go really small)?

Cam is a very good point guard, and the chances of his starting (if he's back) are probably better than 50:50, but I wouldn't call it a lock. I don't think anyone on a 7-20 team has earned the right to start next year without a battle in camp.

I let Fred sort that out as I have 100% trust in him. I've just also have watched Mack this year. Dude is good and a competitor. Going to be hard to keep off the court. He does need to start making bunnies though to help his cause.

Great points, all.

On edit and further consideration:
Banton may actually be the perfect sixth man, too, still able to play 30 minutes a night at a variety of positions. I like that possibility.
  1. Mack
  2. King
  3. Allen
  4. Stevenson
  5. Ouedraogo or Walker
  6. Banton

It's fun when you literally can't decide how to fit 9 guys into 6 spots. I personally like Dachon, but understand why he might not fit in the rotation. I think Cross has shown that he can be a big that stretches the defense. Jervay can get to the rim at almost any time, usually doesn't finish. The new guys will all have warts too, or they wouldn't have transferred and wouldn't be at Nebraska. I'm not anointing anyone yet.

Why do people think King will get a waiver? What circumstances would suggest that’s a real option? I know they’re talking about applying for one. I just don’t see why it’s likely it will succeed. Is there a new rule I’m unaware of?

well, he did escape the iron fist of greg gard

he should be declaring asylum instead of applying for a waiver

It would obviously be based upon something about his relationship with Gard. No clue, but use your imagination. "Dear NCAA, Coach Gard discriminates against non-nutpunchers."

With the looks of this team we may need two balls to play with.:)

Really hoping Mack plays another year, this team will be a fun one to watch and actually accomplish something in the B1G next year..
