Am I the only person watching this?

I've been watching all the Alpine Skiing. I watch World Cup events throughout the season. Live just 12 miles from a ski hill so I ski a lot. Yesterday was a bluebird day with minus 2 degrees on the summit. Brrrrrrrrrr!!! (But it was fun)

My question is do the USA athletes just figure there going to win the gold just by showing up? No training more concerned about talking trash against the president ( no problem with free speech) but just needs to back up your words. I just look at the millions of dollars spent on training these athletes and they lay the preferable gold egg really embarrassing. Good thing the USSR is gone or they'd really be enjoying this year!!!

Lol at people who are not in the conversation for being the best in the world at ANYTHING throwing stones at people who are and who have pushed themselves to get to that point. She took ten or twenty or gasp thirty minutes to put on makeup against the years of preparation for an event. GTFO with that complaint.

if you legitimately make the olympic team it is an amazing feat --- it surprises me that some downplay it and then you will see pages of praise for walkons on the football team

what is fascinating is how some who don't come close to medalling are suddenly media darlings and are going to be set for life with sponsors, media jobs etc while others who actually medal will be forgotten within a day or two

the US won the first gold medal ever in cross country skiing and those 2 women will likely fade into oblivion in a day or so

We'll probably end up finishing 4th which is right around where we should be. The last few winter Olympics we've been overperforming. This year won't have as many medals, but is still very respectable, and I'm still enjoying the Games.

We don't have as many dominant athletes this year as we've had in years past. We're nearly shutout of events that earn a ton of medals like cross-country skiing and speed skating, which traditionally we've never been very good at. That means we need to dominate everywhere else but haven't been able to do that this time.

We're still better off than we were for much of the 80's and 90's. And we're dominating the summer olympics. Nothing to be ashamed of with a top 5 finish in the Winter Olympics. I think a lot of disinterest is due to the political statements of some of the athletes, but putting that aside, I like watching all the events even when there's not an American contending.

too bad the NHL had to ruin the best thing about the Olympics.
People were complaining when they did have NHL players, saying that the Olympics is for amateur athletes. I personally don't agree, but people are going to complain no matter what.

The point was? ...she doesn’t like Trump?
Everyone is entitled to there opinion, but there also a time and place. Do you think as straight laced as TO is cared for Bill Clinton and his antics as president? But TO never disrespect bubba. I myself didn't care for Obama but if I would have ever been invited to the White House I sure as hell would have went, not many people get the chance to meet the president you imo don't turn it down!!! So yes I don't have near the talent as Lindsey vonn, Lebron James, George Clooney but I'm sure as hell going to criticize them when they talk sh-t then fall on there face.

Man that hockey game kept me up late but am I glad I stayed up.

That was one of the best sporting events I've seen in a long time, certainly this year. What a game!

Bonus points that it's a rivalry and we beat Canada, whose team was full of obvious b*tches.

Double bonus points since those Lambeux twins who scored the tying and winning goals are easy to look at.

As a side note, women's hockey holds up extremely well to the male counter-part. Much more similar and more entertaining than say the WNBA compared with NBA.

Exactly. I did not share President Obama's vision for the country, but if invited would have gone to the White House on my best behavior and been happy and flattered to meet my President. That's not to say I might not have drank 12 Dr Peppers while I was there and told him I had to pee.

You might find this interesting. I spent between 20 and 30 days annually on various hills (mostly Mammoth and SLC) for 35 years of my adult life. I skied pretty much everything except some double blacks with rocks or trees below. Three years ago between losing a condo deal, Mammoth no longer grandfathering my cheap season pass, and my knee getting pretty bad I quit skiing. This is my third winter not going. I thought I would miss it horribly, but you know what? I barely miss it at all. Sometimes when they show the snow storms on TV I get a little sentimental, but not much. Weird huh?

It is different for me. When I lived in Seattle I probably got 20 days a year in. I thought I was a pretty good skier. Now that I live in Eastern Washington and have the hill just 12 miles away it is too easy to go skiing. I have a locker on the hill and that makes it even easier. There are about 8 of us who ski together. A couple are ex-racers who push us and one who can't stand to ski on regular runs. Skiing with this crew has made me so much better. They pushed me out of my comfort level.

I am going to Summit County, Colorado next month to ski with old Nebraska friends. I will enjoy the skiing and spending time with friends, but hauling around ski equipment and the logistics of being 2 1/2 hours away from either Spokane or Seattle airports and then getting up the hill from DIA is going to be a hassle. It's much nicer driving 12 miles to the local hill.

Have you skied much in Idaho pan handle or western MT? I would recommend Lost Trail, White Fish/Black Tail (both outside of Kalispell), Great Divide (our local ski hill), and of course Big Sky. The best skiing we have had since moving to Montana was last year over president's day weekend. We went to the back side of the Tetons and skied Gran Targhee. So GOOD! I quit skiing (retired) after that weekend, my body has told me to stop. I still go on the trips and enjoy the surrounding areas, live music, and lodge atmosphere. We have friends in Spokane and have skied at a few of their favorite hills in that area.... Which ones are your favorites?

I actually can still ski fine with my knee. But since it will no longer bend deeper than 90 degrees without #6 pain and lots of swelling afterward I CAN NO LONGER GET ON THE SKI LIFTS. It wouldn't have been a problem 20 years ago because all you did was sit back, but now the high-speed quads are jacked so low to the snow you have to damn near sit on your ankles to get on the lift. That is the A-number-1 reason I quit.

I have never skied either Montana or Idaho. I either ski the Washington Cascades or go to my friend's condo in Colorado and ski Vail/Keystone/Copper Mountain. I always go to Bend in May and finish the season skiing Bachelor (Which most years has been unbelievable in May)

I agree, I was very impressed with the level of play of the women's hockey team. There seemed to be a sense of purpose to everything they did, which you don't always see in women's sports. Not a lot of stupid passes or shots like you see in women's basketball. If they got hit and fell on the ice, they got right back up.

While I know the reason most people on here are interested in curling has nothing to do with the sport itself, the US Men won their first ever Gold in curling last night. Went on a pretty amazing run in their last 5 games, beating multiple very good teams.
Watching the replay of the end, they were showing the Americans in the crowd cheering, and there is a guy wearing a grey sweatshirt with red writing across the front that you eventually see says "Nebraska", so that was kind of cool too.

US women winning the gold medal in cross country skiing was awesome.
Jessie Diggins' finish was damned inspiring. That was all want-to at the end. I don't know squat about half-pipe snowboarding, but I could tell Shaun White was clutch on his gold medal run. It's fun to watch great competitors at the top of their game.

I grew up in a family that had involvement in the USOC so I've always been into the Olympics since I was a kid. I'll watch every event that I can. I broke my leg last month so thankfully I've been home and able to watch these. I can't wait for Tokyo in 2020.
