My guess is better than a lot of people and worse than only a few.

Look at the Big 4 in the Big 12 South--3 of their head coaches were coord before their current job.

The Houston Nutt hire has really--to borrow a phrase from Azzurri- mind17ed a lot of people.

...I'll gladly take 6 winning seasons in 7 years. So you would take a DII coach over the top coordinator in 1A football? Where is the line drawn on that? At some point, the level that they are coaching in becomes important.

I'm telling you. We all know the list, and in general, we can either have a big time coordinator or a small time head coach. CP talked to us because he and Byrne are friends, and he turned us down 15 times.

I have said all along that I wanted Tuberville. Give me a head coach that has been hugely successful in the same division I play in any day. But he is apparently not interested, and neither is CP or Patterson. At that point, Wilson and Mullen take the lead. They have more applicable experience than Todd Graham or Skip Holtz or Turner Gill.

I would say that the SEC has better overall coaches.

I mean, Mike Sherman? Please. We have a better coach than that in place right now with an empty seat.

I mean the SEC had Slyvester Croom and Ed Orgeron for a while. Auburn is about to downgrade. Its not always going to be 6 great coaches.

Are you seriously doubting the accomplishments of the Big 12 South?

at D-I-AA. And in fact, I think Chris Hatcher would be better than Wilson or Mullen at this point. At least he has won at Valdosta and Georgia Southern rather then riding the coat tails of Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, and the Oklahoma and Florida brand names.

Just to be clear here- Hatcher is NOT my first choice.

of the Big 12 South. I don't know where you got that. I just think that the SEC has better overall coaches. The Big 12 is probably second, though.

the conferences are very comparable, and so if 3 former coord can produce teams/programs like TT, OSU, and OU, why are you so adamant that we are going to struggle if we hire a coord.

...I just think there is such a differential in quality of play that even the things that head coaches do at that level doesn't translate to meaningful experience in the SEC. People are crazy about Malzahn and Tulsa's offense. Well, it has yet to work against BCS competition. It's a totally different ballgame. At least with Mullen and Wilson, you've got guys that have coached at that level and had great success. They know what works and what doesn't work.

At the end of the day, you are taking a risk no matter who you hire. And everybody has an opinion about who is the least risky. I think a Graham coming into the SEC is riskier than say a Wilson who coaches every week against roughly that level of competition, but I can understand the other side.
