If something that happens today dramatically changes something, we're way behind where we should be at this point.

to notice that Oklahoma has been scoring a touchdown every 7 minutes or so for the last, oh, 5 weeks, then they probably aren't smart enought to think to look up the name of Okie's OC now. The others were already onto him.

how bad it hurts I don't know but it will be used by he and his agent in some capacity if there hasn't been an agreement already.</p>

How do you know this? What have we missed out on, and if it has taken this long to make the RIGHT hire, then so be it.

for him to try to negotiate for more because the papers are signed, at least that's my hope. I'm sure Byrne, and as has been mentioned any half-intelligent AD will know he had a great chance of getting it, so the possibility of the award could have been factored into his price beforehand.

but to use it in another sense hopefully we can spin it to help secure some of our recruits. IF he is our guy.

Apparently, no one is talking. There is a thread on the OU board about it with a bunch of posts, but no one seems to have any real info.

I just have to ask, why are you and others so upset about hiring the best OC in the nation? I think some of us got to high on the Petersen talk and anything else is just a dissappointment. If you research Wilson and listen to his thoughts on offense, you will understand why he could be a very good head coach. Just remember, a lot of people on this board were wanting a certian OC at LSU about 5 years ago.

knew that Fisher would have been a f'n home run at that point given the state of the program and probation. Beside the **** for talent left by Croom and his band of welfare check cashers, what problems are there now that justify spending two weeks to hire a f'n coordinator? We're going to double or triple the Fers pay. What's the f'n holdup?

I don't really think there is a hold up, Wilson had a game Saturday. I think we interviewed him last week, I would think that Greg an Scot talked to him in Dallas yesterday to make sure he was our guy. Today he was up for the Broyles award, and I doubt he wanted to have the PC the same day given that he won. I would not be surprised one bit if a statement is released today or tomorrow stating he will be the new HC.

As far as talent, the cupboard is not bear contrary to what some say, hell we had the worst coach in the SEC and were 2 pts away from being 6-6. I think Wilson or whoever will be pleasantly surprised at the talent we have.

I would think ya'll would be able to get him for around 1.5 million max.

Kiffin cost UT 2 million, and I doubt you have to go that high for a guy that doesn't have any other options this year.

Im pretty sure MSU is bidding against themselves, at least as far what has been reported.

the SEC has the best coaches in the country as a group outside of the NFL. We can't afford to have someone that is "learning the ropes".

Plus, I think A LOT of people saw Croom and they saw what a coach with experience did at Ole Miss and there's the perception that we must hire someone with experience.

With Cut we had to go through growing pains i.e. losing to Vandy at home with a fairly talented 1999 team, and learning the importance of assistant coaches and how you just can't replace them with any old friend.

For the amount of money being thrown around, I can understand why some MSU fans want a coach that has experience as a head coach.

Croom= huge learning curve for a job as an SEC HC, out of college football for 17 years.

Wilson = small learnng curve, OC at three different D-1 schools, worked under stoops the past 7.

I guess Mark Richt had to learn on the job, that worked out pretty well for him.

we would have a guy who has RECENTLY seen how a championship caliber BCS team has been run. There will undoubtedly be a curve, but the question will be is it because he's never been an HC or is it because of the mess crooms has left.

the only coach currently in the SEC that had no HC experience. If I had UGA's resources, and had been coming off of a 10-2, 9-3, 8-4, and 8-4 season the previsous four years, I would also be willing to take a chance on an assistant.

The fact is we don't have all that much talent (Thanks Croom!), and the best way for us to have success quickly is to hier someone that knows how to coach, and that there is no doubt about it.

Being an OC and a HC are two totally different animals. A good HC is someone that can delegate between the players and the coaches. An OC only has to worry about the offense, and they make a majority of the play calls. I hope that if we do hire Wilson, or Mullen that they at least give up play calling duties.

when he took his first SEC job and he did just fine at ole miss---in fact, he did one of the best coaching jobs in SEC history.

I am telling you some rinky dink CUSA coach is going to have just as big of a learning curve coming to the SEC as a big time coordinator will, probably more.

When Tuberville coached at Ole Miss, you had Danny Ford at Arkansas, Gerry DiNardo at LSU, Mike DuBose at Bama, Terry Bowden at Auburn, and Jackie Sherrill at MSU in the West. Combined NC's- 1

Now you have guys like Saban, Petrino, Nutt, and Miles- all of those have coached either in the NFL or have won a NC except for Nutt, and he's good coach as well. I wouldn't want to try to learn against that group.

with money and Scientology being no object. If he has turned down our job, forgive me because I haven't seen that. He consistently wins 10 games a year at TCU, has a great DC that he would hopefully bring with him, and I think he would hire Hudspeth or Mahlzahn that would run the spread that our players like to run.

for half of Tub's tenure at ole miss. And Nutt was at Arkansas his late year when they went 9-2.

Tuberville had a program that was docked scholarships per year for two years in recruiting. It was the worst penalty handed down since SMU, and is still the worst since that time. What Tuberville did at ole miss cannot be lessened b/c there were a couple of bad coaches in the league. And frankly, if you look at Bowden's records at Auburn, they aren't bad at all except for 1998.

So you have Ford with an NC, Stallings with an NC, and Bowden who went undefeated.

State fans need to wake up. We aren't getting Petersen, Patterson, Whittingham, or Kelly. After those 4 the next best options are Wilson and Mullen. Hopefully we land one of those two. If not we are going to be raiding CUSA.

Cite Cutcliffe and Orgeron as examples. Really, I don't know if O won it or not but I'm not checking for facts.

....job, but not specifically naming MSU. I would be happy with Patterson, and I would've been happy with Petersen. I was really excited about Tuberville. But those guys are all basically out of the picture at the moment (as far as we know), and like Storm said, you are left with the choice of big time coordinator or small school head coach. I would rather have a big time coordinator who knows what it takes to win in a BCS conference. They know the kind of athletes you need and what works and what doesn't work vs. BCS teams. In our case, it's Wilson or Mullen vs. Todd Graham, Derek Dooley, Turner Gill, etc. When you are down to those choices, every one of those guys is going to have a learning curve.

still doesn't compare to the SEC as it is now.

Terry Bowden might be the worst coach in NCAA history to go undefeated.

but its not an awful group and combined with the sanctions, Tuberville proved his worth at ole miss. Hell, that's why Auburn hired him.

I'll put my money on a guy that learned under Stoops or under Meyer.

Legit coaching searches take time sometimes- especially when you are actually negotiating. Especially when your top pick turns you down after nearly signing a contract and you have to almost start over.

of athletes it takes to win a NC, but that doesn't mean that they can get them here, and in fact they probably won't. How good would Wilson be with Tyson Lee at the helm instead of Sam Bradford? They sure wouldn't get 60 a game with our talent. It wouldn't be as bad as Croom, but still.

I think we have enough talent to win 6 or 7 right now, with a decent coach. I would feel a whole lot more comfortable knowing that whoever we hire has made a halftime speech, run practices, dealt with the media, dealt with assistant coaches, would allow assistant to do their jobs, and etc.

This team needs a coach- desperately. Not another Cutcliffe.
