He could make a nice career for himself in Israel or Turkey but as far as NBA goes, I think the best he'll do is maybe a few summer leagues

Ahh I'll give umm a pass this time.

Honestly I could see Derek getting signed on somewhere as an undrafted FA or maaaaaaybe drafted late second round. Ultimately I think he will end up playing overseas. But he might spend a little bit of time on an NBA roster for a while first. Before last year I wouldn't have thought it possible.

Anyone who starts a thread asking people to blast him deserves whatever he gets.

In my opinion, if Willis doesn't get a shot at the NBA it won't be because of a lack of talent or ability - on either side of the ball.

It's hard to excel or reach your potential when things are always handed to you and nobody calls you out for mistakes or quitting when things get a little tough. I think it's possible that this scenario fits in Willis' case - especially in high school. BUT. . . I think that playing for UK and Calipari has been an absolute godsend for Willis' potential as a pro. More importantly even than his getting to play against top talent, is the way Calipari has handled him - basically saying to him "man up or go home. . . nobody is going to make excuses for you here. . . you're good enough to play and excel on the biggest stage in college basketball if that's what you want, but it's on you."

So, to me the only question is does Willis have the drive and work ethic it takes to get a chance at the next level? I guess we'll see.

As far as the NBA goes......... Willis shot himself in the foot with his drinky winky adventure. Unless he just explodes this season.... he'll most likely have to take the NBDL route and prove to the NBA he's not an off court liability. .... thats if they were thinking about him in the first place. Most likely he was going to have to go the NBDL route anyways.

If he can increase ball handling skills and keep making 3s........why not? I would start him...but then again he has been a force of changing momentum coming off the bench in previous games.

A couple of things. First, is the hate towards UMM always necessary? We aren't 14, are we? Cal himself expected Willis to have a long NBA career. Cal said it, not me. I imagine he said it for a reason, 6'9" guys who can rebound and shoot the 3 have real value. The NBA doesn't exactly play the best defense on earth to begin with. So Willis isn't great on D, he is VERY good at shooting and rebounding for that matter. I don't think 1 off the court issue is going to break his back in making it to the NBA, that one, I said.

He has a great chance to make a team on height and shooting alone.

Willis will be fine - kind of expect him to go 2nd round, maybe as high as mid 2nd if we win the NC
He'll get a shot, all he can do is make the most of it
