Big Chiefs fan here so I was ecstatic when the Chiefs took him in the 2nd round. He's quick and versatile and the Chiefs need to replace Reggie Ragland in the middle. Obviously, Gay is an unfinished product and we only got the tip of the iceberg here at Mississippi State. Do you feel like he can be a valuable contributor in the NFL?

Absolutely, his best skill is pass coverage, and he is elite at it. He rated very high in pass coverage at MSU. He was a sure fire 1st round guy without the suspension.

He is a great modern off ball outside linebacker.

He’s a stud. If he plays in all 13 games in 2019, KC probably has to take him at #32. He’s about as big of a defensive playmaker as you can find in the SEC.

Talent-wise, Gay was easily an all-SEC caliber player, and he has every tool to get on a path to an eventual pro bowl.

The only question about him has to do with the fact that trouble seemed to constantly find him. Kicked out of the ‘18 egg bowl, suspended before the ‘19 season for academic issues, thrown out of his first game back in ‘19 for two personal fouls, and then he gave our own starting QB a nasty black eye during practice prior to the bowl game.

A lot of folks seem willing to vouch for the guy, so there’s something to be said for that, but like I said...he’s had some rough times during the last year and a half

He's an athletic freak with incredible football smarts. He just needs to avoid distractions and mature off the field.

Production wise Gay is going to be an absolute steal during his rookie contract. His pass coverage skills are elite for a big man and you might even be able to line him up as a Troy Polamalu type on the field just wrecking havoc everywhere. Athletic freak of nature.

In fairness to Willie, getting kicked out of the egg bowl was a little bogus. He had no control of the 2nd penalty where everyone got an unsportsmanlike whether they were involved or not.

First penalty was ******** too, he took his helmet off while running up the sideline celebrating with his teammates after he scored on a pick-6. Never should of been a flag for taking your helmet off he was clearly on the sideline before he took it off. Pretty sure the refs just wanted to flag us for something for celebrating that big on the pick 6.

willie gay is a pronominal athlete. if he can avoid mindbogglingly stupid penalties and off the field issues, he will be a huge success as a chief....fingers crossed on the last part.

I'd say willie's problem is a lack of self control...

In fairness to Willie, getting kicked out of the egg bowl was a little bogus. He had no control of the 2nd penalty where everyone got an unsportsmanlike whether they were involved or not.

From what I hear from those who know him he's a personable, likeable fellow. I don't think any of his missteps are malicious but perhaps he has trouble controling his impulses. Getting stupid penalites, making bad decisions i.e. tutogate, lack of restraint in a teamate scuffle by fracturing the eyesocket of the starting QB, and his now infamous tweet to recruits.

So based on all of that, I'd say Willie is going to have to do make some changes or that kind of thing is still going to follow him into the league.

Sucks bad he couldn't play much of this year. It almost feels like he was wasted in college but he did play a lot and make some big time plays for us, so he wasn't a waste just not even close to scratching the surface of what he could have been.

Great player. Lots of hootin and hollerin.

How Gay was coached and managed at Mississippi State will probably go down as the most Mississippi State thing in our storied history of Mississippi State things.
