You know me too well. I'd gladly trade any two players on the roster not named Sarr, Boston, or Clarke for Kuminga.
I had to edit my post. Damn autocorrect changed “lie” to “kid”. That just looked ridiculous. Trust me, though, I would love to land Kuminga as well.

Memphis buddy of mine who played football there says he is hearing Williams will be choosing them today.

They would be over the scholarship limit so clearly someone would have to leave. I would think a Williams for Jeffries swap (if it's him) doesn't really make Memphis that much better.

I've already got a nickname picked out for Kuminga if he comes here:

"Ghostrider". [laughing]
You’re a really smart dude. Curious how you came up with that one? With the addition of Sarr, Kuminga would make a better fit now. Talk about an insane amount of talent!

I was the original screw up on that about 10 yrs ago.
Also, brings back memories of my dreaded: “for all intensive purposes” and its a “mute” point.
This board has taught me more about the English language than school every did!
Thanks BBN!

While “moot” is a term used most often, mute would mean a “muffled” or “speechless “ point. I have seen it used before once or twice! Moot and mute are of course 2 different meanings. So you receive a half “point” because you may have meant something different. Less of a sword to fall on! lol

He just looks like what I would envision of the comic character - a leather jacket wearing, fire-demon killing type dude.

I'm on my old-school Marvel kick today. Earlier I compared Clarke to Blade, and now Kuminga to Ghostrider.

I need a comparison for Brandon Boston. Anyone want to help a brother out?

Spider Man! Spider Man, Spider Man, does whatever it is that Spider Man does! [laughing] Anyway, yeah, Spider Man seems like a good fit for Boston. JMO.

This situation has done a 180 in recent days. Competition at the four has been mentioned. That makes sense for Williams and the guys we already have. Nevertheless I'm expecting the usual 'forum freakout' on Friday when he chooses another school.

Yeah, I could still see it.

That said, I personally see Williams as the magazine or candy you buy in the check-out line at Wal Mart after you've already loaded up on the main things you came to get.

I'd like to have him, but I think we've already got enough to compete for a Final Four. I tend to favor only adding a guy at this point if his last name is Cisse, Maker, Banchero, or Kuminga (or any other instant-impact guy who can assert himself into the fray from day-one).

I like it.

He'll need a red-headed Mary Jane though...

Oh I know who could play that role ....

I know this wont be popular on here but Im not exactly well liked or respected anyway and I have never shied away from controversy so here goes:

Regarding Williams Im not convinced Cal is all in because he would be around a guy that contributed to Cal’s most humiliating loss in his tenure here and all things considered the Evansville L could not only be considered the worst L in Cal’s tenure at UK but the worst L in UK history.

Before the Sarr commitment William's was likely going to be a filler for the five spot for us with some opportunity to play the four. He likely knew that but seemed to want to play at UK regardless. Now that Sarr is in place (yes he will play), it looks like Cal stepped back from the table. It makes sense because Williams isn't a five and we have enough fours. Sure William's is good and could help but why create a logjam when we no longer have the pressing need at the five. I'd bet Williams is very disappointed about this.

She’s very noice. I’m sure glad I found my “red - headed Mary Jane”. You just can’t top a gorgeous redhead. Especially one with a little thickness. ;)

I’m sure you are in agreement. I notice you post about redheads A LOT. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s totally justifiable.

This is how I see it as well. What's interesting to me is that the staff is still recruiting Maker and they are still open to Banchero this year or next. Then you have the Papa Brooks comments. What he referring to Williams or someone like Kuminga?

That’s what’s piquing my interest as well. If it wasn’t Williams, then who was it? Was it Kuminga, Maker, Banchero, etc? My heart is hoping one of those players, but my mind is telling me it was Williams, however prematurely it may have been.

This seems most likely. Before Sarr, adding Williams made sense to the Brooks' with Williams getting more time at the five. After Sarr, Williams became spot time at the five and eating up minutes from the fours already on the team.

I personally think the staff is cutting ties with Williams and still pursuing Maker because MM gives you a viable 7'0" backup at the 5. We don't really have a guy who I see backing up Sarr with great efficiency (consider the brutality of the SEC road games) and Williams wasn't going to be that guy. Maker could compete with Sarr, play 15 minutes/game, and still have a chance at OAD. Let Brooks, Jackson, and Ware battle it out at the 4 for minutes.

The Williams ship has sailed. I think the first meeting or meetings went good. Cal was intrigued and really wanted WIlliams. But as the Williams camp got a little more comfortable, I think his demands was something Cal doesn't do. He wanted guaranteed minutes, shots and be a focal point of the offense. He could have got that, but with Cal, it is earned, not given. Not a bad kid, just wanted to look out for his best interest and make sure he was choosing a school that was about DeAndre Williams, not DeAandre Williams being about the school. Maybe a little too much I instead of We.

Personally, I would LOVE to add Maker. His skill set/attributes would be a great fit for our needs this coming season. He’s very versatile for a big man.

doubt the NCAA would let him play......not UK anyway, they would find some reason to block him

funny how Memphis, went from out of the picture to the leader & with no room

I would have liked to added him to make UK that much closer to being a dominant team next year & maybe a title

I would love to have him too. Like I’ve said, he’s just so versatile. He does everything well and plays with a high motor. Would be a great addition for us, but I just don’t see it now.

Memphis is out of scholarships; they still need two open slots for Williams and the transfer from Virginia Tech (Nolley). If Williams goes to Memphis, then there must be something serious with rumors of DJ Jeffries transferring.

Memphis has scholarships available. I'm not sure where it's coming from that they don't.

They lost Achiuwa and Wiseman to the draft. They lost Maurice to graduation. (-3)

They lost Tyler Harris and Ryan Boyce to transfer (-2)

They gained juco transfer Ahmad Rand (+1)

They gained Landers Nolley, either immediate or sit-out transfer (+1)

That's 13 - 5 + 2 = 10 scholarhip players (Also they have Jayden Hardaway)

I read it in an article a couple day’s ago; I’ll see if I can track down which specific article it was. My apologies in advance if I was mistaken. But, let me check on it.

This. Fill out the roster. Guys will transfer out after 1-2 years anyway if they're not pros.

Agree. Cal isn't likely to plug a guy into his rotation (as we saw with Diallo) midway through the season, even if they do come in, and we regularly have transfers out. To not use scholarships is as helpful as saving timeouts and fouls when you're down 5 at the end of a game.

After what Penny did to Wiseman's college career, why would anyone choose Memphis? That's just asking for a cavity search of an investigation and a possible suspension while the NCAA looks into it. (If the NCAA is legitimately interested in such things)

From the outside, it seems like Williams didn't choose his finalists very well. For what he's wanting, that is. Just me, but he'd have been better off looking into some other schools with more available playing time and less stringent admissions standards

I like the fictions presented here. It's pretty creative how it goes from one assumption to the next and grows into a full fledged story of meetings, feelings, and other drama, all without anyone knowing any of it is true. Good stuff

I'll like our team regardless of how it fills out. Would like to see Williams here, but not attached to the outcome. At least we know when he kinda might be deciding

Kyle Tucker this morning, with what I presume is conventional thinking by now inside UK (or "the party line" whichever your level of cynicism prefers). If there's one thing Cal is almost mystical about, it's avoiding red flags.....

And the Wildcats appear to have backed off the recruitment of 6-foot-9 Evansville transfer DeAndre Williams, a productive player with a number of red flags. Originally a Class of 2016 recruit, he left high school during his senior year for online courses and played on a home-school team, then vanished for a year, resurfaced for a season at an upstart prep school whose former coach is now his adviser, sat out as a non-qualifier for a year and then played just 18 games for the Purple Aces this season due to a persistent back injury. He’s 24 years old and has half a season of college ball under his belt. Plus, Calipari has plenty of options at the 4-spot: the shot-swatting Jackson, smooth-scoring Ware and veteran Brooks.

Not sure why we are always saving multiple scholarships when we're losing entire rosters every season. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
I understand the thought. Couple of counters:

1. I suspect it's virtually impossible to find kids at the level we recruit willing to come here to be the 9th-12th guy. The ones we do get always think they are better than that, and end up leaving after finding out they are not 1-5 material.
2. Given, again, the kinds of kids we recruit, and everything that goes with that - entourage, AAU coaches, NBA & lottery in 9 months expectations, etc - it is simply remarkable we have been as "locker-room cancer" free as we have been. I mean, really, how much turmoil have we had. There are plenty of reasons why you can count on one fingers the coaches in the country that could rebuild like this every year, but controlling the environment is perhaps reason #1 and it's one people don't even think of. A part of that, maybe a big part, is we don't take 4 star kids and make them the #11 guy. Whatever advantage we'd get with that kind of depth - and again I understand the need to have more than 8 bodies - we'd lose with bad chemistry.

Just one opinion......

He should go to Durham, NC. Seems like it's now easier to get into duke than it is your local Arby's restaurant.
