Can we beat out mega powers Boston College and UConn for the next super star Will Wood today? Don’t worry he’s just another sleeper that nobody knows about! Some guy in X said he comps to Mcsorely so now half the board thinks he’s going to be Trace 😂

My god after this year Penn State will be a middle of the road Big team for years.

Yeah I’m the same guy who said Penn State can win a Natty this year and half the board laughed at me so yeah I’m the negative one here. If you guys want to be happy because we got a 3 star QB over Boston College and UConn then whatever. Penn State had an awful recruiting class year and this years is middle of the pack so far.

Did you check out his tape? Above average arm with accuracy. Very mobile with good speed. The one thing lacking is height. He is a top 500 prospect and a top 30 quarterback.

First, Will Wood will soon be a 4 star by all services. Second....you can hardly call a 14th ranked class "middle of the road" amongst 68 power 5 schools. So I was wrong, you're not negative, but you seem to dabble in hyperbole.

We're in the times of free agency basically. We have a spend allocation (30 Mil or whatever). Which is somewhat of a salary cap. I'm assuming Borque wasn't valued as much by Penn State as he and his agent valued him. Roster management. Next.

I don't share your pessimism, but I'll be happy with a team that represents traditional Penn State football, and isn't getting smacked around by the likes of UCLA and Northwestern. And the Head Coach isn't trying goofy 4th down **** in the 2nd quarter, then completely freezes up almost every single time things get a little tight in the 4th quarter.

from what i have seen on tape, he tends to sling the ball sidearm. not sure that is good.

There's some real upsides to today's announcement. Hopefully, we bring the Wood after today.

In future games...
"Wood gets penetration and scores."
"Wood stands tall and delivers."

Yeah any way because all those Big Ten and National Championships Krafty said the fans “deserve” are just right around the corner. What position(s) was Franklin in those games he froze up in? I understand his firing and wish Campbell the best, but there were too many games when the players simply did don’t make plays in crunch time. Penn State should have beat UCLA with a Pop Warner coach if the players didn’t decide to not show up for the game.

He's now 6'2". So not sure height is a factor.
These are teenagers. Thats good to know about him growing taller.

I remember when Joe Montana was drafted Bill Walsh was asked why he took him when he did not look like a classic pocket passer? Walsh responded that he could make a pocket passer out of a quarterback who could throw the ball as well as Montana did while on the move.

On his tape this kid made all the passes you could ask of him. He has the record to show he is a leader who wins. He plays tough and does not shy away from contact when running the ball. The fact that the PSU staff went after him hard tells me they see qualities in him that they can work with. I will respect their judgement on him.

Penn State went after him because they lost out on everybody else.

The Head Coach is responsible for the play on the field. Was getting payed handsomely, and felt good enough about that play to try to angle for a raise every single year. The Steelers teaching Allar Pop Warner level footwork being exhibit A (not absolving Allar from responsibility as well). But his first year as a starter he was terrified of making a contested throw. We're did that come from? A 5 star by definition has already made a lot of contested throws.
er coach if the players didn’t decide to not show up for the game.

This is an uneducated take. If you'd been following this recruitment, you'd know that both PSU and Georgia cooled on Bourque about a month ago, leaving him with only VT as a landing spot. I bet he lost out on some money this way too.

You people will need to get used to moneyball. Watch the movie if you haven't seen it. It's about balancing stats, ability, and cost to fill all the spots on the team. Building rosters with monetary constraints is an entirely different animal than legacy recruiting of being the most attractive school to teenagers. There's absolutely no reason to do what Franklin is doing, pouring all of the budget into the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string QBs, leaving every other position group lacking.

Will Wood and Peter Bourque are basically even when you evaluate them. They both can make all the throws, they are accurate, and know how to win at the high school level. They differ slightly in that Will Wood has higher intelligence, more accurate throws, and better mobility, while Peter Bourke has a stronger arm on deep throws, is slightly more experienced, and is taller. When they both come out even--with several of Will Wood's traits being the more attractive ones to the Campbell staff anyways--you DON'T overpay for one of them when you can get the other for half price or less. That leaves plenty in the budget to give the guy good receivers, linemen, tight ends, and running backs.

Here's a real-life example: Amare Campbell. He was requiring over $1 million to stay. Was he good? Yes! VERY good. Was he worth that money? No! There are plenty of other VERY good linebackers who commanded way less. When Amare moved on to Tennessee, I said, "watch, we'll get several nearly equivalent players for that price." And we sure did. We look like we're going to have similar to slightly better starters at LB next year with MUCH better depth behind them and a few new DT's to shore up the line.

IT'S MONEYBALL.

Having said that, if we do happen to lose Will Wood, then I'm there with you that we've lost out on everybody. But Campbell seems to be getting who he wants. When he zeroes in, he tends to get them.

Reminds of Jon Lynch for 49ers. I’ve reache
Wood will be Trace McSorley 2.0

Love this commitment!
Trace 2.0. Loved Trace but had no arm really and that’s why he didn’t do anything in the pros. Noodle arm

Franklin paid Olesh $1M to be TE 3/4 on the roster. If he wants to overpay for Borque to be QB3 at VT, let him do it. The portal matters much more than standard recruiting.

I don’t understand how Franklin is going to build a team pouring nearly all their budget into one position—but maybe that’s why PSU didn’t have any WR, DT, and LB by the time he left.

So, your goal isn't to win a title?
I don't have an issue with Wood at all. Truthfully, I don't care about recruiting at all now with the portal but Trace 2.0 isn't taking anyone to the promised land
He’s also not that much like Trace McSorley, so I don’t understand the comparison. He is taller, more cerebral, patient, and a much better deep thrower.
