i’m kind of glad this is all happening. it’s apparent the ncaa can’t enforce anything to improve the integrity of the game. it started with unc, but others are following now and basically giving the ncaa the bird. selective enforcement use to be our problem with the ncaa. now it’s just enforcement in general. and it’s a big problem for the ncaa which makes me happy. they’ve created their own issue with their inactivity and it should get worse whether they hand out sanctions to a couple schools or not.
at this point who cares if wade and miller are targeted further? with so many bigger fish swimming away through the decades what would this even accomplish at this point? i hope schools do not cooperate, rendering the current ncaa mechanism useless, so we can move on and try something with new attitudes on these issues. things like compensation for player’s likenesses will actually take time. like with everything else they’re not prepared for, they waited too long to react. emmert was not blessed with a good time to be president. all the things they could have done the last 8 years are really going to be black marks on his reign. he and his fellow trustees will deserve it too.
the only reason they will survive is because the rampant cheating is an institution and trumps all the other instances when they completely dropped the ball on purpose. they can’t be expected to govern pervasive cheating everywhere. which is exactly why they are currently useless in the governing department. something significant will change. there’s too much potential money in this market we call college basketball. but the schools need to come up with something better and come together open handed, not to the ncaa with hands behind their back.

The NCAA is a complete joke and the leader Emmert is the biggest joke of them all and gets paid 3+ million dollars a year. And probably more under the table to not punish some of these schools.

I may be in the minority but I applaud coaches who are able to cut player's families in on the financial pie and get away with it.

And I don’t think it’s cool that the ncaa shrugs off some cases but punishes others, especially little schools like Cleveland State to flex their muscles. It’s extremely hypocritical. I was glad to see UL get punished but if I was a UL fan, I’d be livid to see UNC and Duke get off scott free while my favorite team was hit with sanctions.
So you are fine with cheating. Got no problem with players making money just make it fair for all and above the table. Looking at your posts about 90% negative toward U.K.!

Some of these kids families live in poverty while the NCAA folks and the coaches are rolling in the dough off the backs of these kids. Yes I am more than fine with cheating in this instance. There are no victims. The only real victims are the smaller schools but every major sport has an element of ...the organizations with the biggest pockets having competitive advantages.

I do think it should be ok for players to be making money off their likeness and endorsements & such but the argument that schools paying players is fine, rules be damned, is asinine. Some schools can’t get away with it, and believe it or not, some people out there may actually have some morals and choose not to blatantly cheat. So this is giving a totally unfair advantage to the schools brazen enough to just deny and skate.
And incidentally, even with the rules as is, if a kid’s family is that bad off, he’s perfectly able to go play ball in say, New Zealand for a year and make 6 figures like old RJ.
It’s not the programs, coaches, or universities fault that those kids are in poverty (the ones that are).At the same time It’s not their fault either, might not be anyone’s fault. But it’s not a good place to start your argument. It’s merely a qualifier to begin the argument by playing toward emotions and guilt.
These universities are handing out an opportunity for a new life equipped with perks than less than 1% of the population can receive. There are many kids in poverty, they better hope they can catch a ball, right?
The vast majority of the money from the NCAA goes back to the universities to fund many programs and departments. There are many kids from poverty who can’t catch a ball on scholarships from that money.
I know this new grievance is all the rage, but at some point people have to let go of the extreme rhetoric.
I’m sure LSU’s newly hired Athletic Director had nothing better to do with Wade and LSU getting off scot-free. If I’m not mistaken the AD’s son is married to Emmert’s daughter. Nothing fishy here...
